Social Impact

We believe that responsible mining generates sustainable value in host communities and host countries. Across our operations and projects, we strive to create positive economic and social benefits and improve the overall quality of people’s lives in a manner that is sustainable beyond the life of mine, while minimizing the impacts to our host communities.

Kinross generates value for our host communities through local job creation, procurement, tax payments and donations. This value helps to reduce poverty, sustain strong communities and contributes to improved well-being and prosperity. We measure this value through Kinross’ “Benefit Footprint,” our metric for tracking the distribution of our direct economic footprint in host communities. We strive to enhance our value by engaging with local governments, communities and civic institutions to seek ways to translate benefits into sustainable, long-term improvements that last after the mine closes.

Environmental sustainability

We work to meet or exceed expectations to minimize our environmental impacts on our sites and to manage our activities in a way which prevents any risks or impacts off site. When operations cease, it is our goal to ensure that there are no long-term environmental impacts or risks while helping to secure a sustainable future for our host communities.

All of our operating sites are subject to local and national environmental laws and regulations. We are committed to meet, and where possible, exceed these regulatory requirements. Once mining has ceased, we apply recognized standards and best practices in reclamation and closure to rehabilitate disturbed land and restore natural habitats.

Committed to embracing and promoting diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) across all parts of our business, we strive to create a work environment in which all employees are treated with dignity, a culture which promotes learning and open communication, and one in which there is access to remedy. The Kinross Way for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion embeds our commitment to equity across all dimensions of diversity.
