STRUCTURAL SUBDIVISION / DEPARTMENT: Operations
DIVISION: Operations Readiness
FUNCTIONAL MANAGER: General Director
SECTION: Operations Readiness
ADMINISTRATIVE MANAGER: Operations Readiness Director

Type of contract: Temporary - 18 month contract from start date
Work schedule: FIFO (4w on/2w off or 6 w on/3 w off)

JOB DUTIES:

  1. Lead and support a commissioning team who will be responsible for all plant commissioning activities, taking the new plant from first ore through ramp-up to safe, sustainable production at nameplate design rates (25Mtpa ore to SAG Mill).  That is, deliver the C3-C6 phases of the project.
  2. Execute commissioning plans and procedures directing a Commissioning Team that consists of operations personnel from Processing/Maintenance/Metallurgical teams, support personnel from the Pre-commissioning team, vendor support personnel and other contract partners
  3. Work very closely with the Projects Pre-Commissioning Manager to plan and implement the start-up sequence and associated plant area handover/acceptance timing
  4. Co-ordinate and manage the integration of operations commissioning personnel into the Project pre-commissioning teams to supplement the pre-commissioning effort prior to first ore
  5. Prepare detailed schedule of the commissioning and start-up activities according to the project schedule
  6. Develop and implement the Commissioning and Ramp-Up aspects of Operations Readiness for the project
  7. Take the lead in trouble-shooting and resolving operational problems throughout the commissioning phase
  8. Help create a strong teamwork environment between Operations, Maintenance, E&I, Metallurgy, Planning and Asset Reliability teams through commissioning and ramp-up
  9. Implement and lead commissioning progress meetings (daily, weekly) to ensure effective communication and action completion across all disciplines and levels
  10. Demonstrate and drive positive safety leadership in the field with all staff and contractors
  11. Ensure the commissioning team adheres to Company established procedures and RoK regulations
  12. Ensure that any safety incidents/accidents are investigated and reported within the agreed time frame
  13. Implement other tasks given by Line manager within own competence

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree in Metallurgy or Engineering
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in concentrator operation.  Commissioning, Start-Up and Operations experience, particularly of large capital projects
  • At least 3 years of experience in a similar Commissioning Manager role
  • Proven track record in commissioning and ramp-up of large concentrator facilities including at a management/leadership level
  • Motivated and driven self-starter with complex problem solving ability, excellent communication skills and team oriented personality.
  • Possess a detailed working knowledge of large Copper concentrators
  • Experience in leading and managing commissioning/start-up teams
  • Experience in managing all commissioning disciplines including processing, maintenance, electrical & instrumentation, reliability, DCS and technical engineering support
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to engage, communicate and cooperate effectively with multidisciplinary and multinational teams (nationals and Ex-patriots) at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to prepare detailed schedule of the commissioning and start-up activities according to the project schedule
  • Ability to carry out the commissioning and start-up of the plant components according to the commissioning, start-up, operation and maintenance procedures and manuals
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve/troubleshoot and correct faults or deficiencies
  • Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize various competing assignments
  • Practical knowledge in the use of a computerized maintenance system such as Oracle
  • Capability to lead the team in visible leadership in health, safety and environmental aspects of the business
  • Ability to effectively manage one’s emotions and decision making when under pressure over extended periods of time
  • Knowledge of the RoK legislative and other normative acts, methodological and other materials relating to plant production and maintenance activities.
  • Knowledge of the basics of RoK Labor Code, internal work order, HSE rules and regulations and fire safety requirements.

  • are fit for work;
  • have the skills, knowledge, experience and temperament required to work safely;
  • understand the required outcomes in terms of quantity, quality and timeframe;
  • understand the hazards associated with the task, and their potential consequences;
  • understand, and agree to apply, the procedures or other controls that are needed to manage the hazards;
  1. Ensure that the equipment to be used is in good order and is fit-for-purpose;
  2. Monitor the task at the frequency needed to ensure that required procedures are being followed and other controls are in place.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Employees

  1. Be committed to your work;

  4. Inform your Manager if you are not capable to accomplish it for any reason;
  5. Advise your manager of obstacles to getting your work done;
  6. Inform your manager if you do not have sufficient time to get it done.

Managers

  1. Ensure each of your subordinates fully understands their assigned tasks;
  2. Build and sustain a team of subordinates capable of producing the outputs required;
  3. Only accept the appointment of a subordinate if he/she is capable to fill the role;
  4. Continually review the personal effectiveness in role of each subordinate;
  5. Where appropriate, initiate the removal from role of a subordinate who does not perform the role effectively.
