You are an experienced people leader with a safety mindset who is able to direct and coordinate activities of a work crew.  As the Shift Supervisor you will be responsible for partnering closely with the Superintendent to ensure that assigned tasks are completed as per instructions in a safe manner.  You will also be responsible for ensuring the necessary resources are available to members of the crew.    

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a safe and efficient working environment by following Company and Client health and safety standards and reporting any unsafe acts or conditions to Project Superintendent
  • Responsible for the use and maintenance of all safety equipment, i.e. Lanyards, warning signs and labeling, according to company rules and applicable legislation.
  • Ensure all employees have the knowledge to work safely and efficiently by giving them job specific instructions on a daily basis and monitoring progress
  • Assist in work scheduling and planning. Be aware of any changes of conditions in the workplace
  • Ensure all equipment is in good repair, have broken equipment scheduled for repair and make equipment available to mechanics when it is scheduled for preventative maintenance
  • Fill out all progress reports or accident/incident reports that happen during his/her shift
  • Conduct daily pre-shift meetings to ensure employees are informed of safety and production concerns
  • Understand, promote and operate by overall company vision and values, goals, objectives and strategies
  • Communicate routinely and effectively with the Mine Manager and other supervisory personnel as required

Requirements:

  • 10+ years hard rock mining or shaft sinking experience with 5+ years at the supervisory level
  • Post-Secondary education in a mining related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Familiar with Occupational Health & Safety and Mines Regulations
  • Ability to lead through example
  • Requires strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills
  • Requires basic computer skills
  • Working knowledge of shaft sinking and lining
  • Ability to multi-task and work effectively
  • Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently

Work Conditions:

  • 14 days and 14 days off
  • 12 hours per day
  • Camp provided and applicable flight allowance
