You are an experienced miner who will use their high standards for safety to ensure that the client is satisfied with all aspects of the project and that it’s completed safely.  As the Shaft Superintendent you will be responsible for administering, directing and coordinating the functions of the shaft crews and technical personnel. 


  • Plan, organize, assign and supervise shaft crews to safely meet the shaft development targets
  • Ensure that all assets and resources needed to complete a job are adequate to the task, and available when needed
  • Ensure that Client expectations are well understood and communicated
  • Communicate to the Client job phases or activities that may provide challenges
  • Take appropriate action as critical dates approach to ensure a smooth transition between phases
  • Monitor and analyze production and operational reports to ensure acceptable progress on the project
  • Evaluate the performance of personnel with respect to competency and work habits with a mindset focused on additional training, corrective counseling or disciplinary action
  • Ensure all accidents and near misses are fully investigated, root causes are identified and remedies put into place
  • Ensure that all safety procedures are adhered to by all personnel, subcontractors, and visitors at the project site


  • 15+ years shaft mining experience with 10+ years at the supervisor or superintendent level
  • Ontario Common Core Modules including supervisory and shaft sinking modules or equivalent
  • Technical experience with shaft engineering including design and construction
  • Strong leadership skills and focused project management capabilities
  • Exceptional planning and organizational abilities
  • Ability to work under time constraints and adhere to deadlines

Work Conditions:

  • 15 days on and 13 days off
  • 12 hours per day
  • Flights and camp provided
