Fruta del Norte (FDN) is one of the largest and highest-grade gold deposits in the world which is now in production. The Company has an experienced team in mine operations dedicated to advancing FDN responsibly. In the fourth quarter of 2019, Lundin Gold produced the first gold and sent its first tones of concentrate and dore bars. In the first quarter of 2020, FDN reached the commercial production. THE ROLE
The Mine Engineer contributes to the development of the mine design related to underground operations, ventilation, surveying, backfill and production programs. In close collaboration with the operations team and geology group, the incumbent supports the study of mining methods, performs cost analysis, generates mining plans and provides direction to junior members of the Technical Services staff.  

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise and develop junior engineers and technicians within the Technical Services Group
  • Plan, schedule, track and coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work for major mining components including development design, stoping sequence, ventilation, backfill and dewatering
  • Detailed planning for short term mine designs and mining schedules to include short- and medium-term forecasting and budgeting
  • Economic analysis of different schedules and operating scenarios
  • Maintain current designs in database and ensure they are implemented in the mine
  • Develop novel approaches and evaluate plans and criteria for a variety of projects and activities
  • Devise new approaches to problems encountered with originality and engineering judgment
  • Plan and conduct surveys, tests, or investigations, interpret results, and prepare recommendations, summaries, schedules, and cost estimates
  • Coordinate with representatives of other departments to plan and deliver priority activities on schedule and within budget
  • Perform work which includes a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of standard materials, difficult coordination requirements and demanding deadlines
  • Ensure department’s compliance with government agencies, financial covenants, shareholders, environmental, health and safety legislation and company regulations

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Professional degree in Mining, Geotechnical or Civil Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years experience in underground mining in planning and/or operations areas. 
  • Skills in cost and project management. 
  • Previous experience in mine development and production design.
  • Previous experience handling underground mine design software such as: Deswik, Vulcan, Mine 2-4d, EPS Scheduler, AutoCad, MS Office, etc.
