Position: Instrumentation Technician

Lumwana Mine, Kalumbila, Zambia.

Reporting to: Supervisor - Instrumentation

Lumwana Mining Company Limited (LMC), a copper mining company owned by Barrick Gold Corporation is situated in the North Western region of Zambia, some 300 km west of the Zambian Copperbelt and 95 km south west of the provincial capital of Solwezi. The mine is a multi-pit, multi staged operation mining approximately 100MT of ore and waste per annum and producing copper concentrates containing an average of 120,000 tonnes of copper metal per year over a twenty (20) year mine life, making Lumwana the largest single open cut copper mine in Africa. The Company is now looking for an experienced and qualified individual to be considered for the position of Instrumentation Technician .

Role Summary

Reporting to the Supervisor - Instrumentation, you will be responsible for assisting in the establishment of preventative and responsive Instrumentation maintenance and development within the process area and across the site, to ensure maximum operational performance is achieved in a safe and cost-effective manner while ensuring compliance with relevant procedures, polices, legal requirements and consent conditions.

Responsibilities

  • In cooperation with the Instrumentation Supervisor will, you be able to Install, Maintain, troubleshoot, document and repair a wide Variety of Industrial instrumentation electronic monitoring, metering, controlling and signaling devices used in mining Industry.
  • Maintain a professional work ethic through effective, honest communication with supervisors, peers, and operations personnel always.
  • Installation Programming, Calibration, Commissioning, Maintenance of Electrical, Pneumatic, Electronic and Hydraulic Accessories on Temperature, Level, Flow, Pressure and Density Instruments.
  • Maintenance and Repair of Multi/ in-Stream Analyzers, Controllers, Variable Speed Drives (VSD's) E.G. Allan Bradley, Weg, Siemens type...
  • Installation, Programming, Calibration, Maintenance and Repair of Weighing Scales, Weight meter and Weighbridge Accessories.
  • Worked on Siemens S400/300 and Allen Bradley Logix 5000, and 300 Series Plc's.
  • Understanding and Interpreting of Instrumentation. Electronic and Electrical Drawings.
  • Coordination of activities with Operations, Mechanical and Electrical Fields or Sections.
  • Carrying out renovations and Improvements on Equipment and Plant as a Whole.
  • Able to Understand both Siemens S7 or SCADA Control Systems.
  • Repairing of Crusher Instruments and Belt/Conveyor Protection Instruments E.g. Belt Drift, Switches, under speed sensors, Belt pull wire Switches, Belt Rip Sensors, Sensor Guards, and Cord Guards.
  • Repair and Maintenance of Sag /Ball Mills Instruments for Pressure, Level, Flow, Temperature and Density

    Experience & Qualifications
  • Minimum of a Certificate in Industrial Electronics or Process Instrumentation from a recognized Learning Institution.
  • At least 2 years of experience in the mining Industry and preferably in a Concentrator and Crushing Plant
  • Able to quickly adapt to Control & Instrumentation Maintenance.
  • Ability to show initiative and have good interpersonal skills.
  • Able to pass pre-employment medical and able to have valid silicosis certificate
  • Must have good communication skills in the English language.
  • Able to adapt to safe working practices
