The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Process Superintendent II (Instrument/Electrical/Combustion) to join our Copper Cliff Smelter.

The incumbent will monitor, identify and implement opportunities to reduce variation in control processes and systems (Technical, Social, and Commercial) within their area(s) of accountability. The role will identify common causes of variation to be corrected in collaboration with area Manager and Supervisors. Work collaboratively with other Process Superintendents, Managers and Supervisors within the functional and cross functional areas of the Operation, to address supplier and customer system deficiencies and achieve capital, operating and maintenance project goals.

Education & Experience:
  • Education: The ideal candidate will possess a post-secondary education or equal work experience.
  • Experience: 8 Years of experience. Experience with:
    • Instrument or Electrical trade based or technical field
    • P.Eng designation is considered an asset

Requirements & Accountabilities:
  • Audit and analyze systems within the area(s) of accountability to achieve the following outputs:
    Zero harm to employees, the business, the environment and the community,
  • Leads and ensures HomeSafe behaviors are exhibited by team members. Coach members on consistently achieving Managing Risk to go HomeSafe and take corrective action when necessary to address noncompliance.
  • Work with the HSE Committee to develop actions to improve safety, health and environmental performance.
  • Provide performance feedback to team members and coach and counsel employees on the standards of behavior, and take corrective action as required.
  • Contributes to the Succession Planning processes. Advises the Manager on improving the capability of the Supervisory team to meet future needs through selection and development.
  • Must monitor trends in the consumption of resources and the performance of those doing the work, whether they are internal or external, as well as monitoring maintenance outcomes, maintenance process parameters and inputs i.e. both consumption and value. From an analysis of the trends, the Process Superintendent II takes action to improve the capability of the team to meet future needs.
  • Assumes line accountabilities for the staff and hourly workforce that identify, plan and execute maintenance work and select capital projects. This work includes structures involvement in investigations, grievances, management of change, etc.
  • Monitor the execution of service work by employees within their department and contractors employed by the department to ensure safe practices are employed and make the necessary process changes if required. The Process Superintendent II is the Joint Health and Safety Co-chair representing management on the Committee.
  • Accountable for the successful implementation of new processes and systems within their department. For existing systems, the Process Superintendent II monitors the work flows through one or more related processes as demands and resources change over time, reallocating resources to meet total outputs safely, efficiently, and effectively. They thus manage a mix of processes, technology, funds and people to balance 1 year results requirements within 1 to 2 year improvement milestones.
  • Accountable for the Capital Planning process at the plant. The Process Superintendent II must monitor the capital process to ensure owners and sponsors the necessary support to obtain capital funds and monitor the capital spending.
  • Manages the boundaries between the maintenance area and the other departments at the Smelter so that work, information, ideas and technology flow freely.
  • Analyze the more complex relationships between multiple processes and make suggestions for improvements to Smelter/Division-wide policies, practices and systems.
  • Accountable for the plant level support, maintenance and implementation of upgrades to SAP to ensure the continuing operation of this system.
