Role: Mechanical Engineer
Summar y
The Mechanical Engineer will be part of an engineering team providing engineering services to large and small projects. The Mechanical Engineer is broadl y responsible for establishing s y stem requirements, performing functional anal y ses, defining design criteria, preparing engineering calculations, technical specifications, data sheets and reports. In addition, the Mechanical Engineer is required to develop, or provide input into, 3D models and 2D dra w ings. The Mechanical Engineer reports to the Lead Mechanical Engineer on a large project and to the Project Manager or the Engineering Manager on a small project. The Mechanical Engineer ma y supervise junior engineers, intermediate engineers, designers, technicians and technologists on a project. The Mechanical Engineer is expected to mentor y oung engineers as part of their career development programs.
Ke y Responsibili t ies
Assist in defining project scope
Assist the Engineering Manager/Lead Mechanical Engineer with the deliver y of project requirements as the y relate to scope, cost and schedule
Perform s y stem anal y ses, establish user requirements, analyze s y stem functional and performance requirements, define design criteria, and establish s y stem la y outs and designs
Prepare engineering calculations such as h y draulic modeling, stress anal y sis, equipment
si z ing and tank, pressure vessel and bin design and ensuring that all anal y ses satisf y user and s y stem requirements
Prepare technical specifications based on input received fr o m other disciplines
Conduct interface management between related s y stems
Prepare data sheets based on input received from other disciplines
Prepare and contribute to technical m e mos and reports, within areas of expertise
Provide input to engineering, operating and capital cost estimates
Prepare and/or revie w project standard specifications and design criteria
Prepare or provide input to 3D models and 2D mechanical dra w ings
Participate in and contribute to design revie w s
Carr y out assigned tasks w ithin budget and schedule
Stamp documents and drawings as required and if appropriatel y registered
Manage small capital and maintenance projects
Assist in preparing proposals
Revie w and evaluate technical w ork prepared b y junior engineers, intermediate engineers, designers, technicians and technologists
Assist in the compilation and deliver y of monthl y engineering status reports
Construction supervision and management dependent upon project demands
Assist in the commissioning of s y stems on site as required.
Quali f ica t ions an d Experienc e
Essential
BSc/BEng in mechanical engineering.
Registration as a professional engineer. Alternativel y , registration as a candidate professional engineer activel y w orking to w ards professional registration.
Minim u m five y ears project engineering experience.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Good planning and organizational skills.
Abilit y to function with minimal supervision.
W o rking knowledge of industr y standards, regulations and codes pertinent to the m e chanical engineering discipline.
Abilit y to function as a m e mber of a multidisciplinar y team and coordinate mechanical activities bet w een disciplines.
Safet y a w areness.
