About the Role:
Downer Defence are currently seeking an Assistant Project Manager to contribute to the delivery of AIR3503 - Distributed Ground Station Australia (DGS-AUS). AIR3503 is a project to develop and deliver an intelligence fusion and dissemination hub for airborne-generated sensor data. The project has achieved Gate 0 and is aiming for its next approval gate in Q4 2021. The DGS-AUS is a new capability for the RAAF, with the technology being new and cutting edge.

Downer Defence are currently seeking an Assistant Project Manager to contribute to the delivery of AIR3503 - Distributed Ground Station Australia (DGS-AUS). AIR3503 is a project to develop and deliver an intelligence fusion and dissemination hub for airborne-generated sensor data. The project has achieved Gate 0 and is aiming for its next approval gate in Q4 2021. The DGS-AUS is a new capability for the RAAF, with the technology being new and cutting edge.
The Assistant Project Manager will:
- Have extensive knowledge of Defence projects and the Defence Capability Life Cycle (CLC) including drafting of CLC documentation in reparation for Gate submissions.
- Manage a range of project activities and coordinate project inputs in accordance with organisational practices, methods and standards appropriate to the complexity of the project.
- Manage schedule, risk, budget and resources, preparation of briefings, submissions, reports and returns relating to the project progress and issues in accordance with organisational requirements.
- Apply established technical, operational, professional and administrative activities, procedures, practices and project management methodologies (including the CLC, PRINCE2 and PMBOK).
- Identify risks and opportunities and take account of these in planning, decision-making and priority setting.
- Build and sustain stakeholder engagement including the ability to communicate with influence and negotiate effectively. Coordinate Integrated Project Management (IPT) meetings and prepare/distribute IPT meeting documentation.
- Work collaboratively and build effective relationships with team members, the Project Sponsor, Partner Delivery Agencies.
- Analyse project performance against agreed plans and develop and initiate strategies to achieve project outcomes.
- Provide input into the development of project planning, performance, cost and schedule documents, work breakdown structures, project information management in accordance with agreed procedures and performance standards.
- Prepare correspondence, briefs and reports as directed including submissions and documents for higher delegate and committee consideration.
- Analyse and ensure compliance with legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks.
Essential Criteria:
- Project Management Degree or equivalent.
- Experience working on Defence major capital acquisition projects
- Experience with the Defence Capability Life Cycle and governance requirements.
- Excellent Verbal and written communication skills.
