Position Description:

Nevada Gold Mines (NGM) is looking for an Environmental Engineer II or III Waste Management to join the Carlin Environmental team. The successful candidate will ensure that all legal and other compliance obligations related to the mine site waste program are achieved.

Responsibilities:

  • Overall accountability for ensuring compliance with Federal, State, and Local regulations related to hazardous and non - hazardous waste streams
  • Evaluation of field, operational and analytical data to assist in determining waste stream characterization
  • Oversee operational area inspections to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements including accompanying regulatory inspectors on periodic mine site inspections
  • Coordinating waste shipments with transporters and disposal facilities and ensuring all required documentation is completed
  • Maintaining accurate records (including operations and inspection logs) related to chemical inventories and shipments of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes
  • Preparing and submitting clear and concise regulatory agency reports and other required documentation
  • Development, implementation, and maintenance of leading environmental metrics to track waste and energy consumption
  • Interfacing with regulatory agencies regarding hazardous materials and waste stream management
  • Collection and evaluation of data for Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) as well as Corporate Sustainability reporting
  • Lead and develop junior staff, as assigned
  • Coordinate program related training of NGM employees, business partners and visitors
  • Responsible for periodic, after hours on-call response to environmental incidents, as needed
  • This position requires the ability to regularly walk over uneven, sloped, rocky, wet or icy ground and the ability to lift 40 or more pounds consistently and safely
  • Perform other duties as assigned

    Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in physical or biological science, natural resources management, environmental science/engineering, chemical engineering or mining engineering required
  • Five to seven (5-7) years of experience in hazardous and non - hazardous waste management in a highly regulated industrial environment or mining and mineral processing industry required
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Ability to understand and apply government regulations related to hazardous materials and wastes including but not limited to Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act (EPCRA), Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA), Toxic Release Inventory Reporting (TRI) and Landfill Management required
  • Inspection experience associated with hazardous materials handling and labeling, in addition to, technical expertise understanding processes which can produce hazardous wastes and hazardous pollutants (air, land, water) required
  • Ability to influence others and work within a team environment required
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills required
  • Understanding of ISO 14001-2015 and Environmental Management Systems preferred
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER Training Certificatepreferred
