Located in the Great Sandy Desert in Western Australia, Telfer is a fly in fly out operation from Perth which recognizes the importance of work-life balance. Our comfortable, well furnished rooms include Foxtel, and our site offers quality food with healthy options, medical care, sports and recreation activities. Families are welcomed several times a year to open days to support our community feel at Telfer.

Who we are looking for

We are seeking a level-headed and motivated Senior Mining Engineer to join our Underground Department at Telfer and lead our site-based Engineering Team to ensure all work is carried out in a safe, structured and timely manner. In addition to delivering on the weekly and monthly mine schedules, you will coordinate timely delivery of quality plans to the Mining Contractor for execution. Through your expertise and leadership, you will provide hands-on support to develop, coach and mentor team members to continuously improve their knowledge and skills and grow collectively as a team.

With exposure to three different mining methods, the diverse operations across the site offer a multitude of technical and operational challenges and opportunities where no two days are the same.

Other key deliverables of the role include:
  • Safety leadership
  • Establish team priorities from the long-term planning process in accordance with the budget
  • Monitor compliance and consistency between weekly and monthly plans and the budget
  • Evaluate and report on drill and blast performance
  • Ensure technical outputs are fit for purpose and in accordance with site standards
  • Safeguard a team-based culture between employees, departments, and contractors

To succeed in this role, you will be a natural leader and a team-player with excellent work-ethics and a can-do attitude. Your ability to communicate effectively and in a timely fashion will help your team members understand the daily tasks and their importance.

In addition to the above key skills, the below skill set will set you up for success:
  • Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or related discipline
  • Proven mining operational experience in an underground hard rock environment
  • Scheduling and Drill and Blast experience essential
  • Proficient in software based mine design programs such as Deswik or Surpac
  • Current WA Class C Manual Driver's Licence

Please note: This is a permanent role that will work on a FIFO (8/6), flying out of Perth.
