Are you passionate about safety? We are looking for a skilled safety professional to lead our safety team at Fording River!

Reporting to the Superintendent, Health and Safety, the Safety Supervisor is responsible for managing and growing Fording River’s health and safety program to ensure it meets best in industry standards.

To be successful in this role you must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills to supervise a team of safety professionals. You have the ability to identify areas of improvement and drive for results. You can advocate and influence affectively to audiences of different backgrounds, across different departments. You are great at prioritizing and handling complicated priorities while still keeping accurate records. Most importantly you are a positive, forward thinking individual who will think in an unexpected way to build a successful Health and Safety program.

You will be able to make a huge impact by identifying and supporting areas of continuous improvement in reducing High potential Risk at our largest mine in the Elk Valley. Successes at Fording River will be shared with our other mines which will improve our company as a whole.

Responsibilities :
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Manage and mentor a team of safety personnel including Safety Coordinators, Loss Prevention Officers, and Security Gate personnel
  • Provide technical support and functional leadership to site departments and personnel in areas related to health and safety
  • Ensure adequate Emergency Response requirements are met
  • Provide guidance and recommendation to contractor safety initiatives
  • Update and maintain sites Workplace Monitoring Program, including statistical analysis
  • Guide and mentor the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee
  • Develop, coordinate, and conduct vital Safety Training, Audits, and Inspections
  • Maintain Safety Reporting requirements
  • Provide leadership and support to the Occupational Health and Hygiene team


Qualifications :
  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or Applied Sciences
  • Minimum five years related experience in the management of a safety team
  • Mining or heavy industry experience is strongly preferred
  • Possess a Canadian Registered Safety Professionals designation or willing to achieve this designation
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite®: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
