Technical Specialist - Electrical & Instrumentation

Globe 24-7 in partnership with Newcrest Mining, is working together to source two experienced and qualified talent to join their Asset Reliability Team at their Lihir Gold Operations (LGO).

The Role

Reporting to the Electrical Supervisor, the Technical Specialist - Electrical & Instrumentation will be required to provide technical expertise to support the operations, maintenance and technical service teams responsible for crushing, grinding, flotation, leaching and gold recovery during regular operations and provide technical support during plant shutdowns.

The Requirements
  • Advanced diploma or tertiary level Engineering degree and professional accreditation is preferred
  • Dual Electrical & Instrumentation trade qualification or certification is essential
  • Australian, New Zealand or PNG Power Electrical Licenses including HV Switching accreditation is essential
  • An exemplary safety record and outstanding safety leadership
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience essential
  • Experience in a large mining or heavy industrial environment in electrical and instrumentation roles with significant High Voltage Switching and HV power reticulation experience
  • Certificate in Workplace Assessment and Training or similar desirable
  • Currently holds or is willing to attain skills related to SCADA computerised control systems
  • Good skills in applying Australian electrical standards, particularly the AS3000 wiring rules
  • Basic understanding of formal Project management skills, practices and methodologies
  • Advanced analytical skills for fault finding/diagnosis and repair of faulty electrical equipment, instrumentation, control wiring systems and process control interface
  • Advanced understanding of the principals associated with the installation, repair, and calibration of industrial instrumentation including flow, pressure, temperature, density, position and chemical analysis instruments.
  • Advanced understanding of the principals associated with the repair, and maintenance of industrial electrical equipment including HV and LV motors, motor control centres, variable speed drives, power distribution and lighting systems.
  • Proficient in the reading/interpretation & accurate updating of electrical drawings.
  • Previous experience working in a remote location in a developing country advantageous, but not essential
  • Proficient in English with excellent verbal, written communication and public speaking skills.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office suite and SAP or similar
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution & training.
  • A current PNG, Australian or New Zealand Drivers Licence
