About your role

We are looking for a Planning & Technical Superintendent to join our project team delivering the world-class Oyu Tolgoi underground mine in Mongolia. This is a key role within the Owner's team with the responsibility for the safe and timely delivery of the cave Production Infrastructure.

The role will be responsible for coordinating all engineering support activities, planning, cost control and commissioning processes while also being the key liaison point between the mining and construction teams.

In addition, they will also be responsible for the training and upskilling of the National roles for future construction works. Expected time frame for transition to occur in 2-3yrs once on boarded.

Working within the Extraction Level/Haulage Level Construction integrated delivery team (mining and construction disciplines) you will be:
  • Maintain and apply a working knowledge of relevant engineering legislation, building codes and standards as they apply to the project
  • Work with other engineers and site supervision as required to support engineering project delivery
  • Driving performance and providing leadership to the team
  • Provide and develop communication between the Mining and Construction teams
  • Ensure that the construct is built as per the design
  • Preparing accurate monthly reports on project performance criteria
  • Ensuring the design fully complies with the tender documents
  • Promote and develop improvements into the design
  • Drive and manage performance of design consultants
  • Preparing accurate monthly reports on project performance criteria
  • Ensuring identified third-party relationships such as consultants or contractors are formalised in accordance with agreed procurement strategy
  • Ensuring the design team is adequately resourced to deliver key requirements in line with the programme, budget and contractual arrangements
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements and all relevant Company and Group policies and processes
  • Risk identification and mitigation
  • Support Mine Operations during execution
  • Have the proven ability to create effective relationships with clients and internal stakeholders
  • Oversee Civil/Mechanical / HVAC calculations, drawings, data sheets, project related specifications and other design documentation as required and in accordance with Mongolian Standards, ISO and Quality Assurance standards
  • Develop commissioning plan in conjunction with the Site Operations Readiness team
  • On site review of contractor's installation and commissioning for compliance

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have the following:
  • Engineering qualification
  • 8+ years engineering and construction coordination experience in similar facilities
  • Experience in running a multi discipline team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Outstanding organizational skills
  • Knowledge of interpreting detailed engineering and resolving conflicts between engineering and construction
  • Knowledge of cost control, scheduling, engineering drawings and other work flows.
  • Advanced Ability to set-up and perform project controls functions.
  • Ability to understand material takeoffs and field estimates.
  • Outstanding commitment to HSE and Quality
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of an integrated delivery team;
  • Well-developed contract management skills and commercial acumen;
  • An ability to work autonomously within a highly complex project delivery environment;
  • Experience working in developing countries with exposure in coaching and facilitating skills transfer to nationals

It will also be beneficial if you have:
  • Professional Engineer certification

Where you will be working

Oyu Tolgoi is an operating Copper / Gold open pit mine with a brownfields underground mining project. The site is located in the Gobi desert region of Mongolia. The reserves case for the underground project is in the order of 0.5 billion tonnes of ore to be mined from the 95,000 tonnes per day Hugo North Lift 1 (HNL1) panel cave mine with a 20 year operations life. There is also the potential for 3 further block cave districts to increase mine life beyond 100 years.
