Reporting to the Senior Maintenance Engineer, the Temporary Mechanical Engineer is accountable for providing mechanical support to Trail Operations as a member of a Technical Team.

The Mechanical Engineer will provide engineering assistance for maintenance, project management, and asset management functions in order to maximize the availability and utilization of the production equipment. Specific functions include equipment inspections, asset life evaluations, maintenance planning, capital project planning for asset replacement and installation of new technologies. This challenging role will draw upon strong interpersonal communication skills and a broad technical background.

Responsibilities :
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Proactive contribution to a safe working environment through a thorough understanding of the hierarchy of hazard control, detailed engineering inspections, detailed engineering deficiency reports, facilitation of hazard risk assessments, and field level risk analysis
  • Reduce and mitigate unplanned downtime through the support of maintenance trades. Lead in-field failure analysis, development of repair methodology, and sequencing, and field-level quality control and technical support
  • Take a strong role in creating, planning and executing projects and other assignments or objectives, working with minimum supervision
  • Scope, study, prioritize, and manage project execution for sustaining capital projects
  • Support in planning, scheduling, costing, detailed design and execution of shutdown work
  • Work with the business area team to coordinate the preparation and execution of asset management plans that enhance the safety, environmental performance and production capacity of Trail Operation plants


Qualifications :
  • Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. Other engineering disciplines will be considered with suitable experience
  • Eligible for, or working towards, registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of the Province of British Columbia
  • Minimum of six years’ experience that includes significant exposure to plant process equipment in a large-scale industrial setting
  • Experience in working with engineering contractors
  • Strong field skills including communication, troubleshooting, problem solving and project management
