ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Based at the Detour Lake Mine site, we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Boom Truck/ Crane Operator to join our Mobile Maintenance team reporting to the Mine Maintenance Supervisor.

Detour Lake is the second largest gold producing mine in Canada with the largest gold reserves and substantial growth potential. The open pit mine is located in northeastern Ontario, approximately 300 kilometres northeast of Timmins and 185 kilometres by road northeast of Cochrane, within the northernmost Abitibi Greenstone Belt.The mine is situated in the area of the historic Detour Lake open pit/underground mine operated by Placer Dome which produced 1.8 million ounces of gold from 1983 to 1999. The Detour Lake operation has a mine life of approximately 22 years with an average gold production of 659,000 ounces per year.

The Boom Truck/ Crane Operator will be responsible for the safe operation of the boom trucks and mobile cranes, whiles ensuring compliance with all safety and regulatory procedures and acts.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Safe and effective operation of boom trucks and mobile cranes, taking into account weather and road conditions;
  • Operate other various heavy equipment as required;
  • Perform daily pre-start and post-operational inspections and complete appropriate documentation in compliance with Company guidelines;
  • Monitor equipment operation including gauges, dials and other indicators on the boom truck and mobile crane, and report any issues to the Supervisor;
  • Communicate clearly and effectively through the use of radio, hand signals and/or other systems;
  • Follow and comply with all health, safety and environmental policies and procedures, including those outlined in the Occupational Health & Safety Act;
  • Follow defined practices to assure quality, safety and housekeeping standards.


QUALIFICATIONS

Our ideal candidate has:
  • Minimum Grade 12 or equivalency (GED);
  • Certified Hoisting Engineer Mobile Crane Operator (License 339A);
  • Minimum three years' work experience, preferably in the mining industry;
  • Mechanically inclined and able to identify potential equipment issues;
  • Demonstrated commitment to health, safety and the environment.
