About your role

We are looking for a Senior Project Engineer to join our project team delivering the world-class Oyu Tolgoi underground mine in Mongolia. This is a key role within the Owner's team with the responsibility for the safe and timely delivery of the cave Production Infrastructure.

This role will ensure that project packages (design and equipment) will work in the context of the project and will be economical and delivered on time. Ensure package contracts are fit for purpose and contain all the relevant information to allow vendors to execute the work in accordance with the projects requirements. Manage and maintain contracts and contract documentation to ensure requirements, codes, standards, budgets, deliverables and schedules are understood and achieved. Work with discipline engineers to ensure that all equipment designs adhere to the relevant requirements of the package and the project. Ensure all work is completed in accordance with Quality Management Systems of the project.

Working within the Extraction Level/Haulage Level Construction integrated delivery team (mining and construction disciplines) you will be:
  • Coordinate and maintain the assigned packages performing due diligence to ensure package will perform as required by the project, will be specified clearly (to avoid extras, will be delivered to meet schedule, and will be cost effective.
  • Coordinate engineering requirements for the package and support procurement in any necessary steps. Ensure appropriate input into Equipment packages is provided from others. Coordinate package information requirements for others through project defined channels.
  • Consolidate vendor data review comments, assign status codes, apply final review signatures and initiate data return processes.
  • Monitor fabrication progress and ROS (Required on Site) dates, communicate variances to project team. Collaborate with inspector and expedites on this activity.
  • Issue revisions of contract documents to procurement to keep PO up to date, reflecting package supply cost adders and credits. Performs due diligence in accepting revisions that become cost adders, from vendors and all departments, to ensure adders are worthwhile.
  • Provide Cost Forecast Updatesof managed areas.
  • Assist Procurement to verify Invoices.
  • Keep track of progress of packages. Identify to Project team when progress is slow or stalled
  • Keep track of extra hours incurred in executing the deliverance of packages for whatever reasons including:
  • internal error
  • rework
  • extra work (by the owner and extra work caused by the vendor)
  • Assist Procurement to ensure appropriate payment holdbacks (Commercial terms are jurisdiction of purchasing) are maintained to promote receipt of vendor data list and schedule, critical vendor data items required by drafters/designers, final data items (such as data books) and to ensure full compliance with specifications.
  • In coordination with Procurement and Projects, track progress of equipment and data supply with respect to the project schedule.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have the following:
  • Engineering qualification
  • 10+ years engineering and construction coordination experience in similar mining projects
  • Strong project engineering and project management experience in similar capacities
  • Adept in working and collaborating with multiple functions to achieve projects milestones and objectives
  • Outstanding commitment to HSE and Quality
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of an integrated delivery team;
  • Well-developed contract management skills and commercial acumen;
  • An ability to work autonomously within a highly complex project delivery environment;

It will also be beneficial if you have:
  • Project Management Certification

Where you will be working

Oyu Tolgoi is an operating Copper / Gold open pit mine with a brownfields underground mining project. The site is located in the Gobi desert region of Mongolia. The reserves case for the underground project is in the order of 0.5 billion tonnes of ore to be mined from the 95,000 tonnes per day Hugo North Lift 1 (HNL1) panel cave mine with a 20 year operations life. There is also the potential for 3 further block cave districts to increase mine life beyond 100 years.
