Alexco Resource Corp. owns the majority of the historic high-grade Keno Hill Silver District located in Canada’s Yukon Territory. With nearly 1,000 meters of underground development completed at our two new deposits and a robust Pre-Feasibility Study released, Alexco is advancing the district towards a production decision with the goal of production in Q3 2020. The company has an immediate opening for a Scoop Operator.

Position Overview:
Reporting to the Mine Supervisor (Shift Boss), the Scoop Operator will be responsible to muck out rounds, install ground support and install services while working according to the company’s policies, work procedures and all applicable government legislations ensuring efficient operations within a safety conscious work environment. This will be a 14 day on / 14 day off rotation at our Keno Hill Project in Elsa, Yukon.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Refuel, check coolant and engine and hydraulic oils, lubricate all points and complete standard daily check forms and drives equipment to and from work area;
  • Visually inspects, sounds, scales and washes down work area, if required;
  • Operates manual and remote scoop tram to load bucket with ore/waste; hauls to dump or loads onto truck, and transports mine supplies;
  • Advances vent tubing, installs or removes air and water pipes to facilitate own work;
  • Operate traffic control signals where applicable and respond to signals to prevent a vehicle accident;
  • Completes daily logbook on equipment and submits written and verbal reports;
  • Report progress and any unusual occurrences to supervisor; and
  • Maintains working area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.

Education and Experience:

  • Grade 12 education preferred;
  • 2-3 years’ experience operating equipment;
  • Knowledge of equipment maintenance and storage;
  • Ability to multitask and work effectively;
  • Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently;
  • Ability to make decisions quickly; and
  • Pre-employment testing will be mandatory (drug/alcohol, lead blood, audiogram, etc.)
