Located approximately 26 miles from the City of Fairbanks, Fort Knox is a centre of excellence for the Company as one of the few cold weather heap leach facilities in the world. In 2016, the site poured its seven millionth ounce of gold, 20 years into its mine life. The initial Gilmore Expansion Project is expected to extend mine life to 2030.

Job Description

Tend to one or more mills that grind materials, such as rock/ore, using chemical reagents and steel balls to achieve required grindability and material fineness. Monitor process control panelboard and regulate inflow/outflow of materials, adding reagents to ensure attainment of specified production goals. Must comply with all company safety regulations, operation requirements, and efficiency levels while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross' values.

Job Responsibilities

  • Operates, inspects, and monitors crushing, processing, and refining equipment to achieve the highest possible ore recovery.
  • Performs mechanical tasks when needed that are within the scope of training and skills.
  • Responsible for keeping a clean work area.
  • Responsible for pre-shift inspections, including of equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with other operators in order to maintain continuity of operating strategies.
  • Responsible for maintaining written logs in a precise and orderly manner.

  • Helps develop other department personnel to perform duties listed above.
  • Consistently exercises discretion and judgment in job performance.
  • Punctuality and regular attendance is required.
  • Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures, including, but not limited to, safety, confidentiality, and environmental policies.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the state.
  • Work safely in all areas, identify potential safety hazards, and work with management to correct hazards.
  • Work without significan risk of harm to self and others.
  • Other duties as required


Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Employees must have sufficient education to read and write instructions, perform simple mathematical calculations, and keep records.
  • General background in milling and/or processing preferred.
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and also as a member of the management team.
  • Demonstrates strong administrative, organizational, and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets.

  • Must be available for shift work, overtime, holidays, and weekends.
  • Progression through wage scale is contingent upon satisfactory completion of attached checklists.


Reporting Relationships

  • Works under the direct supervision of the Ore Processing Supervisor.
