Specialist Operational Readiness Mining Perth
  • Looking for a break from FIFO and the chance to be home every night?
  • Do you want to be part of a multibillion-dollar expansion project?
  • Contribute to sustaining mine operations by "planning for tomorrow's ore today"

About the role

It's an exciting time to join our Iron Ore Operational Readiness team. We are expanding to epic proportions and introducing cutting edge technology at our sites across the Pilbara region. This is all part of our ongoing journey to take efficiency and safety to the next level.

In this newly created role, you will be part of a multibillion-dollar expansion project, specifically focussed on our Paraburdoo region. You will have the opportunity to play a key part in developing the all new non-processing infrastructure and to bring your experience to aid in a number of projects within current operations.

If you are looking to join a close-knit and progressive team, then this is the role for you!

With construction expected to commence in late 2021, you will initially:
  • Use the life of mine and five-year plan to provide clear and concise direction for key stakeholders
  • Create and maintain Operational Readiness schedule to align with study and project deliverables
  • Act as the mine operations liaison between mine planning and the project team
  • Understand and communicate site specific operating philosophies
  • Participate in project reviews and use your experience to ensure a safe and productive design
  • Implement future operating technologies such as autonomous haulage systems (AHS)
  • Provide input into operational and studies mining parameters through desktop and field analysis

About you

You will hold tertiary qualifications in a relevant field (e.g. mining, geology, surveying or equivalent) and have technical experience within an open pit mining operations environment. With safety at the forefront of everything you do, coordinating and planning comes naturally. You are easily able to positively influence a large stakeholder group, guide the activities of a contractor workforce and offer direction for other Rio Tinto support functions.

It would be terrific if you've worked on major mining projects in an EPCM setting. Even better if you have mine planning and/or project scheduling experience with the ability to decipher and improve on current designs. Mine design and Microsoft project application experience and ability are essential. A 'C' class drivers' licence will be required.

Where you will be working

In the Pilbara region of Western Australia, Rio Tinto operates the world's largest integrated portfolio of iron ore assets with industry-leading margins. Our premium product suite, including our flagship Pilbara blend, drives strong customer relationships and is supported by technical and commercial marketing expertise. The iron ore business continues to be the world's largest autonomous truck operator and a proud leader in automated mining technologies.

Our current Paraburdoo operations include the Eastern Range, Channar and Paraburdoo mine sites while most of the focus for this role will shift to the new Western Range mine.

This position will initially be based in our Perth CBD, Central Park office working Monday to Friday. You will then transition to a FIFO roster once construction and commissioning commences on site (late 2021).
