Purpose

The Metallurgist will support the company's Operation Management / Met Operation and will be responsible for executing metallurgical processes or practices and operational control parameters required to attain optimum valuable metal concentration and recoveries from the ores, including overseeing metallurgical lab operations.

Responsibilities and Duties

Work safely, responsibly and in accordance with applicable legislation, company policy, standards and procedures Participate in the design, development or improvement of the present Merrill-Crowe and Carbon Plant processes, plant and equipment Supervise daily operations/employees within metallurgical lab to ensure optimal performance and output Develop processes for the recovery of valuable metals from the present or new ore bodies; direct and coordinate economic trade-off studies for reagents, processing media, liners etc. Plan and schedule activities of the Research and Development, and Process Control functions Evaluate and review test results as well as historical plant performances and prepare reports and recommendations to the Chief Metallurgist Coordinate with the plant supervisors on the implementation of operating controls, operating procedures and plant tests Support in the implementation of cost savings programs and budgeting systems Complete process monitoring, lab/plant testing, data entry, analysis and reporting Prepare and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly plant production reports before distribution to Process Plant Manager and/or senior management Monitor plant performance, identifying sources of variability and making recommendations for improvement Perform routine plant inspections during maintenance shutdowns Perform routine met lab tests (column test, bottle rolls, assays etc.) Other duties as assigned

Knowledge/Education/Abilities

Degree in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering or other relevant field of study required Minimum two (2) to five (5) years' experience in a gold processing plant operation preferred Prior experience in a supervisory role Ability to follow all company and regulatory health and safety policies Ability to exhibit strong leadership skills including ability to lead others through influence Ability to work independently and self-directed Intermediate / Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office. (Excel, Access) Ability to communicate well with internal employees in all levels of the organization, including in written and oral formats (presentation ability required) Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well as part of a team and cross-functionally Ability to work well under pressure and manage sensitive or controversial subjects with tact, kindness, and professionalism
