Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources - US Mining, this role will be responsible for leading the day-to-day activities of the site department, in line with the site HR strategy, and for providing HR team advice and support to the site. The role is also responsible for the development and implementation of HR and employee relations initiatives in line with the site strategy and Nyrstar Group Policy to promote an effective and harmonious work environment.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Safety, Health and Environment:
  • Ensure compliance with statutory / legislative and Corporate requirements
  • Integrate SHE initiatives into departmental planning, decision making, systems and processes
  • Promote awareness and establish appropriate departmental targets to prevent harm
  • Ensure all hazards and sources of loss are identified, evaluated, and controlled in accordance with Nyrstar SHE Policies and the Safety Management Standards
  • Be accountable for safety, health and environment activities within your department
  • Ensure fitness for work compliance throughout workforce
  • Conduct business of Nyrstar in exemplary manner in terms of ethical, commercial, legislative and community expectations and requirements.
  • Promote the Nyrstar sustainable strategy for our community
  • Develop a high level of safety and environmental awareness amongst your team

People and Organization:
  • Lead human resources strategically within site to result in Nyrstar having preferred employer status and being a high achieving organizational environment
  • Manage departmental practices to support effective employee relations
  • Assist HR Manager in promoting and managing effective leadership, performance management, career development, and succession planning of team personnel
  • Appropriately prioritizing activity to continuously achieve targets


Operations:
  • Lead human resources department to ensure services are maintained for efficiency and effective delivered results
  • Maintain and provide advice to site Superintendents / Managers and leaders on human resources issues and systems
  • Manage the recruitment process, inclusive of selection and termination of employment for site for hourly and staff employees
  • Manage HR involvement with Safety on workers compensation claims management.
  • Manage compliance with State and Federal legislative requirements
  • Manage the auditing of compliance with all HR systems, policies and procedures to make improvement recommendations, implementation and monitoring of corrective actions
  • Supervise to ensure that reporting and recording requirements are maintained accurately and on time and that communication channels for relaying information to appropriate personnel are maintained and improved
  • Understand cost drivers in the Human Resources department and seek improvement in cost performance
  • Must have good interpersonal skills and sustain the ability to work in and promote a team-oriented atmosphere


QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years' experience in HR or related field; 2+ years in a supervisory function
  • Strong site-based HR Generalist/Business Partner experience
  • Bachelor's degree in HR or related discipline
  • Senior Professional of Human Resources certification, or SHRM Senior Certified Professional certification preferred
  • Must possess an in-depth and experienced knowledge of employment practices, policies, and compliance requirements in job description
  • Must possess excellent presentation, training, facilitation, and interpersonal skills
