About the role

We are looking for a Senior advisor - Occupational Health who will be providing support for ongoing and future health monitoring of the workforce, implementation and management of the Local and Rio Tinto Health Standards and reviewing the Health risks of the future operation with a key focus on elimination and mitigation and of these risks. The work will be conducted in close cooperation with Site Leaders and the Operational Readiness Team, the Rio Tinto Health Area of Expertise (AoE), and other Energy and Minerals Health practitioners.

Reporting to the HSE Manager, you will be responsible for:
  • Education, communication and engagement with RT HSE groups, site leaders and operational personnel
  • Communication and engagement with RT HSE groups and site leaders
  • Liaison with key external parties e.g. regulators
  • Identification of and Deployment of occupational hygiene resources
  • Monitoring of emerging risks and associated mitigation planning
  • Ensure compliance with legislative and RT health standards
  • Ensure exceedances are avoid but if they are exceeded, ensure they are investigated, reported and corrective actions are recommended to site leaders
  • Ensure quality control and accuracy of hygiene data and reporting
  • Champion occupational hygiene improvement plans with asset operational leaders
  • Develop Similar Exposure Groups for current and future operations
  • Develop testing and monitoring program for current and future operations
  • Conduct Health design reviews of the future operation and maintain the site Health Risk Register
  • Develop the Occupational Health plan for the future operation, including roles, clinic facility, SEGs, systems/procedures, employee wellness surveillance, monitoring programs in alignment with local requirements and the Rio Tinto Standards

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
  • Degree in Occupational Hygiene, Medical Training, Nurse or similar
  • Applicable Serbian and/or European OH Certificate
  • Experience in similar role with similar scale/complexity
  • Experience in mining or similar heavy industry
  • Knowledge and understanding of standards and key risk management and assurance processes
  • Occupational hygiene legislative and regulatory requirements
  • Strong communication, engagement and influencing skills
  • Problem solve complex issues
  • Coach, support and influence site leaders
  • Analytical capability
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Proficiency in both English and Serbian.

Where you will be working

The Jadar project is a greenfield Underground mine and process plant development located approximately 40km south-east of Loznica, Serbia. An underground mine, comprising of a production shaft, exhaust shaft, development levels, access to production stopes, mobile mining equipment and associated infrastructure. The process plant is designed to produce boric acid, lithium carbonate and sodium sulfate.

Jadar project commenced the feasibility study in Aug 2020. The project business strategy is to develop Jadar as a core, Tier 1 asset with synergies with Rio Tinto Business, enabling a green future and creating value for both Rio Tinto and Serbia. The project execution goal is to derive maximum value from Jadar for its stakeholders, while also delivering on the promised outcomes.

The Jadar Project is a world-class lithium-borate deposit discovered by Rio Tinto in 2004. Jadar is a unique deposit near the town of Loznica, Serbia. It contains Jadarite - a new lithium sodium borosilicate mineral. Jadar is the only place in the world where this mineral can be found. Jadar has been ranked as one of the largest lithium deposits in the world with a potential to supply a significant amount of the global demand for lithium and boric acid. If developed, Jadar will be a modern underground mine with efficient processing and shipping facilities.
