Position summary
Downer Rollingstock Services are looking for a Project Engineer to be based on site in Newport, VIC. This role will support the Commercial and Bids team in a range of business development opportunities that include technical solutions for major upgrades, introduction of new technologies, through life support, overhauls and new fleets.

This position will be providing effective engineering solutions to emerging project issues on safety critical equipment and design thresholds whilst supporting the development of industry leading proposals by providing expert technical advice to internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide professional engineering advice and support to rollingstock upgrade and maintenance proposals to ensure safe, compliant and reliable passenger fleets, while maximising performance and profitability
  • Work with Downer's internal stakeholders and industry partners to identify and develop innovative technical solutions to complex engineering problems
  • Support the broader bid team in development and writing of technical proposals which are considerate of both Downer's and the customer's goals regarding project benefits, cost, time and risk
  • Work with the broader Downer rollingstock services engineering and operations teams (including travel to production sites) to validate estimates and technical feasibility
  • Participate as a technical representative in presentations both to the client and to Downer senior management (as required)

About you:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic or Mechatronic Engineering
  • Proven experience gained within the rail, aerospace, defence or similar heavy industry environment is desired
  • Knowledge in real-time control systems, voice and digital communications and/or software development as practiced in railway, military or heavy industrial environments
  • Knowledge of relevant Australian and International standards
  • Knowledge of engineering processes, including failure-reporting, investigations, and engineering change
  • Root cause analysis and cost benefit analysis skills
  • Good leadership and team building skills, with excellent communication and presentation skills
  • High level analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to effectively prioritise and deliver results
  • Ability to assess of technical risks, including preparation of risk assessments
  • Competent in the use of MS Office products (excel) used to analysis of data
