Summary: The basic function of this role within the COTE BLANCHE MINING AND PROCESS DEPARTMENT is to perform routine detailed inspections of our fixed asset equipment, including but not limited to, primary, secondary, and tertiary crushing equipment, conveyor belts, screens, transfer points, chutes, and mill structures. The inspection process will help with work identification and planning purposes in order to aid our RAM PROCESS. This role will be critical in identifying, prioritizing, and kitting fixed asset maintenance in coordination with the Production Maintenance Coordinator.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:  (Management reserves the right to add or modify the duties and responsibilities at any time.)

  • Inspection of mill conveyors, screens, crushers, and structures (operational and non-operational):
    • Inspect screen media to avoid oversize products
    • Inspect gearboxes and drive belts
    • Inspect electrical motors
    • Inspect all wiring
    • Inspect conveyor belting for damage or belt lacing
    • Inspect splices
    • Inspect rollers
    • Inspect skirting
    • Inspect tracking (ability to make minor adjustments)
    • Inspect guarding
    • Inspect safety appliances (pull cords, speed switches, fire extinguishers, etc)
    • Inspect YPS application systems
    • Inspect sampling systems
    • Inspect magnets
    • Inspect belt scales
    • Inspect the skipping line, loading pocket, and loading bins/gates
    • Inspect trench hoppers
    • Inspect surface surge tank systems
    • Inspect for accumulations of spillage and debris
    • Inspect the condition of any belt cleaning systems
  • Develop and log detailed work requests based on inspection findings
  • Work with Production Maintenance Coordinator and Fixed Asset Maintenance crew on critical findings to prevent breakdowns
  • Reduce bottlenecks in fixed assets through improved inspection and maintenance processes
  • Attend necessary prioritization meetings per RAM PROCESS
  • Set up jobs for Fixed Asset Maintenance Crew by ensuring stores has properly kitted planned work
  • Work with the Production Maintenance Coordinator to have the correct equipment available for the Fixed Asset Maintenance Crew.
  • Participate in field reviews with Fixed Asset Foreman, Production Maintenance Coordinator, Lead Mine Engineer, or operations leadership as necessary
  • Routine review and development of our fixed asset inspection process
  • Ensure fixed asset operating parameters in coordination with Lead Mine Engineer and technical specifications
  • Participating in the identification and implementation of reliability driven improvements
  • Perform a variety of tasks that assist with the operation of the plant, including cleaning, sweeping, and shoveling materials
  • Adherence to all Compass Minerals safety rules for self and all other employees

Education and Experience:  AA, BS degree and/or 3 plus years of effective technical, maintenance or production leadership experience. Technical, production and/or maintenance experience in the current operating facility(s) will be considered as highly desirable. May be required to complete formal training in area of specialty.

Computer Skills:  To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient with computers and possess the ability to quickly master skills required to function in CMMS. Must also be proficient in Office Suite.  Proficiency in ERP systems with emphasis on maintenance module.

Mathematical and Reasoning Ability and Skills: The ability to perform higher level math functions pertaining to engineering disciplines.  Must be able to proof own work for accuracy.  Ability to collect and accurately assemble data in a logical manner.
