The Environmental Coordinator - Compliance is the planning and response lead for the Environmental Department, which serves an administrative function to advise, support and document Newcrest Red Chris Mine with municipal provincial and federal environmental legislation and associate permits.

Reporting to the Environmental Superintendent, responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Leader in environmental risk mitigation, environmental incident prevention and control planning and response.
  • Serve in a site-wide oversight capacity: performing inspections, audits, and incident tracking and reporting
  • Advise and support NRCML management and cross-departmental project planning
  • Site-wide Education and Orientation
  • Supporting Newcrest Safety transformation and supporting Safety System, ensuring a safety-first work culture
  • Ensure adequate pro-active monitoring occurs to maintain a safe work environment
  • Ensuring adequate tools, equipment and resources are available to ensure tasks can be carried out safely
  • Taking a proactive risk management approach to departmental tasks, i.e. recognise, analyse, respond to ensure risks are at an acceptable level
  • Support the development and maintenance of standard work procedures and safe systems of work; enforcing absolute compliance
  • Contribute to designing and obtaining and maintaining regulatory approvals for Environmental Emergency Management Plans, and Emergency Response documentation (EPRP, MERP, etc.) and SOPs; perform training and tabletop exercises and maintain documentation for each.
  • Maintain inventory of Environmental Emergency Response Supplies (ESC, spills, etc.)
  • Incident Tracking and Reporting to Relevant Regulators and Stakeholders

Who we're looking for

We are looking for someone with a Bachelor's degree in relevant field combined with 2-5 years minimum experience with Emergency Planning and Response. This candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to safety where first aid and mine rescue participation is encouraged. You will also have a strong sense of integrity and desire to promote a safe, sustainable and environmentally responsible culture. Our ideal candidate will also have the below:
  • Candidates will be required to obtain and maintain current WHMIS training as well as obtain Transport Dangerous Goods Certification (TDGC)
  • Formal training in any of the following strongly preferred: erosion and sediment control (ESC), environmental Engineering, and contaminated sites remediation, a plus but not required
  • Excellent communication skills; must be able to present relevant, credible information to all personnel onsite as well as regulators and stakeholders in both verbal and written form
  • Attention to detail and conscientious dedication to maintaining records
  • Strong computer/data management skills
