Analyst, Benefits, located in Toronto, ON

The Opportunity:

Responsible for providing support in the management and implementation of Vale's benefits programs relating to Base Metals employees. The incumbent provides assistance and advice to employees and managers as it relates to our annual flex benefit re-enrollment cycle with vendors and employees and their benefit plan contracts and procedures. Assists the Manager, Sr Specialist in various amendment processes.

  

Accountabilities:
  • Assists with the administration of our benefit plans in across our Base Metals locations
  • Ensures compliance with benefit plans, policies and processes
  • Completes benefit surveys as required to better understand market trends
  • Assists in resolving and answering any inquiries/issues from employees/retirees by interpreting benefit plan contracts and procedures.
  • Assist in coordinating our annual flex benefit re-enrollment cycle with vendors and employees
  • Works with Sr. Benefit Specialist and vendor to make any amendments to plan design or contract changes/updates. Ensures all benefits booklets are up to date and accurate.
  • Validates benefit premium invoices to ensure accuracy.
  • Prepares and processes all benefit billings for Canada and the U.S. on a monthly basis
  • Assists in the preparation of the annual IRS 5500 filings for our U.S. Medical and Life insurance plans.
  • Prepares and updates quarterly filings for US member reconciliation reports required to be submitted
  • Acts as a resource for local areas to develop a high level of customer service and a support model for employees and retirees.
  • Administer and coordinates benefit plan enrollment for all expats with our global expat provider.
  • Reviews all eligibility file feeds sent to vendor and updates/edits as required.
  • Update monthly KPIs for vendors and other ad hoc requests for performance meetings.
  • Track and process benefit premium payments required for employees on leave to ensure coverage remains active.


Education:
  • Undergraduate degree in HR, Business Administration or a related field
  • Preferred – CHRP


Experience:
  • Minimum of 0-2 years in Benefits or 2-4 years of experience in other HR areas


Knowledge and Skills:
  • Collaboration : ability to work with immediate team
  • Organization Skills : follows direction/guidance from Sr. analysts to manage individual time and workload.
  • Analytical Skills : ability to understand basic problems, facts, figures to propose action plans and present data in an effective way
  • Communication Skills : Able to write and speak clearly, communicating basic topics with team, local HR/employees.
  • Microsoft Office : Intermediate proficiency in Excel (minimum VLOOKUP and pivot tables), PowerPoint, Word.
