Want to be part of establishing the risk systems and processes for a large scale mining and processing operation?

Glencore Metals Queensland is currently seeking suitably experienced applicants for our role as Superintendent of Risk and Audit. Reporting to the Manager Risk, Audit and Training, you will provide expert Risk and Audit assistance across our Glencore Metals Queensland operations. This is a permanent, residentially based position in Mount Isa and has roster options that promote a healthy work-life balance.

The Operation

Mount Isa Mines is one of Australia's oldest, largest and most complex copper mining operations. It is the second largest producer of copper in Australia and a key asset in Glencore's global mining portfolio.

Our business is integrated across the entire supply chain, from resource identification and development to production and distribution of copper cathodes to customers across the world. The Mount Isa Copper operation consist in an integrated Mine to Anode concentration and smelting process. We add value across all steps of our value chain by leveraging capability from our local and Global teams, and by leasing with the Glencore trading team to process custom ores and concentrates that deliver attractive profits to our business.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • Development, maintenance and delivery of the Risk and Change Management Systems, including establishing and maintaining the risk and change management frameworks (including policies); coordination and oversite of risk and change management activities; development and maintenance of risk management software; regulatory compliance management; and management of department risk registers
  • Effectively supporting, mentoring and facilitating risk and assurance activities for operational customers
  • Coordination and execution of internal and external audit programs including insurance underwriting audits, assessing adherence to HSEC Management System standards and regulatory requirements
  • Facilitation of Major Hazard Facility (MHF) external audits, development of MFH reports for the regulator as per the Queensland Mining & Quarrying Safety and Health Act and Regulations
  • Supervision of a team of professionals covering Risk, Audit and Investigation functions
  • Facilitation of process safety activities as requested by operational stakeholders
  • Participating in collaborative and positive team culture in line with Glencore Values
  • Operational accountability for financial and human resources processes for the team

You will have:
  • Extensive qualifications and experience across Risk Management including Enterprise Risk Management and methodologies relevant to the mining/resources industries.
  • Mining Operations and/or Major Hazard Facility experience (Highly Regarded)
  • Highly developed report writing skills coupled with practical experience in delivery of safety, audit, investigation and technical reports and recommendations
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and persuasion skills including the ability to deal with operational stakeholders from a wide range of backgrounds and practice areas
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitation, mentoring and stakeholder engagement
  • Working knowledge of relevant legislative requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to provide innovative and practical solutions to meet business challenges
