Specialist System Engineer - AutoHaul®

AutoHaul® is the world's first autonomous heavy haul railway system and the world's largest robot. Trains depart two ports and can travel over 500 km to 13 mines, where they are loaded with over 25 thousand tonnes of ore per train and returned, without a driver ever boarding the locomotives.

About the role

This role is a great opportunity to be part of an integral team which manages the AutoHaul® system delivery. Working with operations and the Vendor teams this position has the opportunity to positively impact the AutoHaul system.

What the role entails
  • Coordinating engineering activities for defined areas of responsibility for full project life cycle
  • Reporting engineering progress against approved plans
  • Ensuring compliance with standardized processes, systems and tools
  • Supporting engagement and performance of external engineering contractors
  • Work with operations and project teams to understand system requirements
  • Communicates status and progress to key stakeholders within the development lifecycle
  • Oversight of test outcomes to ensure compliance to intended design
  • Facilitates workflows associated with the approved RTIO Change Management processes
  • Facilitates configuration management process
  • Maintains relationships with key stakeholders
  • Demonstrates a culture of collaboration, participation and improvement
  • Oversight to ensure compliance by various parties to appropriate and agreed standards

What you will need for this role

To succeed in this role, you will have:
  • Degree Qualifications in (Science, Engineering, Signalling or equivalent).
  • Understand and have experience in the operational environment of a railway network
  • Experience in software development and deployment, preferably in an operational environment
  • Have a good understanding of modern railway technical systems
  • Have good planning and organisational skills
  • Have good interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with rail operation procedures and guidelines
  • Experience in the use of CENELEC standards (EN50126, EN50128, EN50129)
  • At least 5 years' experience in any combination of: the engineering of complex computer-based systems, diesel electric locomotive systems, railway wayside systems, IP communications, rail signaling, or computer communications and cybersecurity,.
