Maintenance Reliability Superintendent

The Maintenance Reliability Superintendent is accountable for managing and coordinating the reliability, warranty and planning functions for all surface and underground fixed and mobile assets. This includes managing the KPI deliverables, the reliability and availability functions, working with surface and underground operations teams to drive and optimize the overall fleet reliability and up-time, overseeing the maintenance, parts and component planning functions to increase overall efficiency, productivity and manpower utilization. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Responsibilities

  • Responsible working with the customer, Department Superintendents / Supervisors, as well as the OEM to increase overall reliability of the equipment, parts and components;
  • Manage the reliability engineer's site activities, reporting and feedback to customer, group and OEM;
  • Maintain timely resolution to product issues;
  • Ensure that the OEM guidelines, reporting processes, i.e. TSI's, TSR, etc. are adhered to;
  • Communicate and update customer and SMS leadership continuously with issues, and issue resolution;
  • Act as customer's main contact to address quality and reliability issues;
  • Manage ad-hoc reliability improvement initiatives in collaboration with the department leaders and trades.
  • Clearly define roles and responsibilities for each member of the team.
  • Facilitate/lead root cause failure analysis for major component failures on key open pit production equipment such as loaders, haul trucks, drills as well as a variety of support equipment. Identify and implement corrective actions for recurring or premature component failures.
  • Undertake analysis of machine performance data in conjunction with the maintenance planners and crew leaders, identify, quantify and implement opportunities that will improve overall equipment reliability and performance.
  • Work with the maintenance planners to report/track both the progress and value of improvement initiatives that are undertaken within the department.
  • Provide technical/engineering support to maintenance planner /crew leaders and others within the department as required.
  • Provide support to the Maintenance Superintendent and General Supervisors for maintenance budgeting, cost reporting and variance analysis.
  • Provide leadership and guidance for the development of overall maintenance strategies for critical fleet.
  • Coordinate with Regional/Corporate groups to assist with the delivery of specific reliability-focused initiatives.
  • Show commitment to safety & health, including time interacting with workshop personnel.
  • Thorough and detailed root cause failure analysis for all major component failures. Ensure that corrective actions are identified and implemented such that there is an improvement in the overall equipment reliability.
  • Maintenance KPI's clearly defined and tracked for key mobile equipment. Identify the impact of reliability improvement work on those metrics and where possible, quantify the value of that work.
  • Preparedness to provide quality technical support to others in the maintenance department.
  • Assist in the development of the annual maintenance budget and provide analytical support to the Maintenance Superintendent and General Supervisors for monthly cost variance reporting.
  • Maintenance strategies developed and implemented for all critical fleet.
  • Foster a positive and effective working relationship with Production, Maintenance and Supply teams.
  • Maintain good working relationships with external suppliers and contractors.
  • Build productive networks with colleagues at other sites, as well as externally to Barrick, within the North American region.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with Regional/Corporate personnel as appropriate.
  • Integrate with business improvement methodologies and techniques
  • Ensure that all warranty processes are adhered to and are meeting targeted warranty and resolution timelines;
  • Resolve through the various departments any discrepancies and eliminate any reconciliations and/or disputes;
  • Establish Planning Scalability and Efficiency with Standardization
  • Plan with Operations Superintendents the ramping up and down as projected by the rolling plan, the resources, tooling and manpower requirements as well as the training and development of planners, trades, EIT's and other support staff

Qualifications

  • Position requires an in-depth knowledge of fixed and mobile assets & reliability functions.
  • Requires the ability to coordinate diverse systems and to plan with excellence.
  • Understanding of exchange component programs;
  • Understanding of Company's and OEM policies and procedures as they relate to maintenance practices & parts supply.
  • Strong working knowledge of computers and applicable software (MS Office, Oracle, SAP, Visiya, Xeras)
  • Must possess good oral and written communication skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills.
  • A degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a Journeyperson Mechanical Certification with a minimum of 5-7 years of supervisory experience preferable within a heavy equipment mining environment.
