Chief Financial Officer

The CFO is responsible for organizing, directing and controlling the work of the accounting, supply chain and management information personnel in collecting, summarizing, and interpreting financial data for the use of internal management and corporate stakeholders. As a member of the senior management team, the CFO helps to develop forecasts and budgets for the organization, measures actual performance against operating plans, and interprets the results of operations for all levels of management. This position involves supervision over general accounting, supply chain, property accounting, internal auditing, cost accounting, and budgetary controls.

Responsibilities

  • R esp onsible for the evaluation and assessment of all commercial aspects of the site - specifically around capital investments and contracts.
  • Assists operating departments to manage capital requirements for their various areas.
  • With the assistance of corporate HO, develop, maintain and own the site financial model that should form the basis/justification for all site commitments.
  • Responsible for the development of the site business plan on an annual basis as well as the subsequent budgets and forecasts.
  • Together with the site GM, be accountable for the site Management Report that contains all KPI's, write-ups and variance analysis required to effectively communicate monthly events at and off site compared to budget as well as the rolling forecast.
  • Develop and maintain accurate and adequate accounting and financial records (expenses, revenues, inventory etc.).
  • Responsible for the implementation of corporate procedures and the implementation of corporate mandated programs.
  • Responsible for the management of the annual budget cycle and the updating of the monthly forecasts.
  • Owner of the site risk register and implementation of all risk policies and owning all commercial aspects of risk assessments.
  • Promote and ensu re a safe work environment and a safety conscious work force.
  • Assure that the highest environmental standards are incorporated within each area of responsibility.
  • Supervise activities of the Direct Reports in the running of the accounts payable, general accounting, MIS Functions and Supply Chain.
  • Ensure that all corporate policies are adhered to (i.e. Accounting/Supply Chain Policies, Code of Business Conduct, Ethics and Health and Safety as well as Sarbanes Oxley requirements).
  • On-going administration of the 3 Hemlo Pension Plans as well as being a member of the Pension Committee for Hemlo.
  • Liaise and facilitate on property insurance issues for the site with Corporate.
  • Duties specific to Global Gold Standard, Gold Security Standard and shipment of gold to refineries.
  • Liaise and ma in contact for audit and Tax queries.
  • Responsible for establishing a high functioning team that can assist in producing quality financial outputs on a monthly basis.
  • Responsible for his/ her team organization, employee development and succession planning.
  • Manage and maintain relationship wi th internal clients.
  • Perform other duties or special assignments as required.
Qualifications

  • Accounting Designation (CMA/CA/CGA/CPA)
  • Minimum ten (10) years in progressive management experience in a mining environment or other related industry
  • Proficient in MS Office with a strong emphasis on excel (strong financial modelling skills an asset.)
  • Attention to detail
  • High level multi-tasking and organization.
  • Oracle GL system knowledge an asset.
  • Proven ability to influence people and to work as part of a high-performing team
  • Capability to lead, mentor and develop processing staff
  • Competence in mine economics, evaluation techniques and budgeting for mine operations
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian/American Engineering standards.
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with all levels of the organization, including executives.
  • Excellent time management and project management skills.
  • High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning.
  • Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise necessary cost control measures.
  • Good interpersonal skills and communication skills
