Glencore is currently seeking a Mining Engineer at its Mount Isa Copper Operations - a large sublevel open stoping mine with a sublevel cave under construction. Mount Isa Mines is one of the biggest mining operations in Australia located in Mount Isa, Queensland.

The Operation
Mount Isa Mines is one of Australia's oldest, largest and most complex mining operations. It is the second largest producer of copper in Australia and a key asset in Glencore's global mining portfolio.

The Role

The long history of the site means that we work in and around historic workings and every stope design is different - we want you to think outside the box, innovate and table new ideas that could improve the current mine plan while integrating new mining methods into our scheduling process.

You will be become part of a small multi-disciplinary team that oversees a section of our mine; taking reserve/LOM level designs through a detailed design process before project managing design execution. This wide scope ensures that no two days will be the same for the successful candidate.

This is a permanent full-time residential role in Mount Isa. The annual salary for this role can range from $105,000 - $130,000 dependent upon the depth of experience and skillset the successful candidate will bring to the position. In addition, you will also receive 13% superannuation and exclusive benefits, including housing and utilities allowances.

Look forward to a mix of operational engagement and technical office time including:
  • Detailed design work for an upcoming stoping sequence
  • Development of accurate design plans for lateral and vertical development
  • Task sequencing and engagement with operations, regular underground inspections
  • Preparation of stope design presentations, firing notes and fill notes
  • Hands on completion of i-KON stope firings

The successful candidate will have the following:
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications (mining engineering or similar)
  • Minimum of 1 years' experience working at an underground mine
  • The skills required to work in a team environment and manage your own time/workload, while building strong inter-departmental relationships
  • Advanced software skills, preferably with experience with the Deswik software suite
