Reporting to: Nordgold Exploration Director

Focus of the role: Direct responsibility for managing team and budget, all aspects of district and prospect scale exploration, resource and reserve definition, remote field logistics, geological interpretation, and all aspects of quality control and assurance as well as remote area asfety.  

Key deliverables: Definition of reserves and resources on a large land position on Nunavut. Increase in existing resources. District scale exploration with the goal of discovery of new ore deposits within the tenement package.

Major mandates for the role: Oversee geological activities in Canada to ensure best practice is applied, that project geologists are well directed and receive professional mentoring, that all activities are completed safely, and that technical communication is excellent with the company headquarters.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Take full responsibility for an aggressive exploration program on an extensive land package in Nunavut
  • Provide technical input to the exploration management plans, work procedures, reviews and agreements applicable to exploration activities. Develop technical exploration strategies for the project with due regard for risks, timeframes and exploration potential
  • Analyze results and provide recommendations for future work
  • Ensure best practices in the technical, community and safety spheres are applied
  • Provide input for setting priorities for exploration activities manage a budget to achieve the desired discovery outcomes.
  • Provide technical leadership for the project exploration team.
  • Contribute to maintaining relationships with government bodies, consultants, contractors, and head office

Candidate profile:

  • Must have a postgraduate qualification in geology, possess depth of geological knowledge;
  • Working experience in quaternary geological environments;
  • Strong field geology background combined with a proven track record in planning and executing exploration programs and discovering deposits;;
  • Experience of 10+ years in planning and managing complex field programmes in northern areas with helicopter support
  • Knowledge of modern resource calculation methods a plus;
  • Experience in mentoring/coaching staff;
  • Gold focused background is preferable;
  • Competence in interpretation of multiple data sets (geophysics, geochemical, geological, quaternary geology);
  • Proven leadership and communication skills;
  • Organized and structured approach and ability to multi-task and prioritize;
  • Team player, striving for excellence, open to continuous improvement, yet receptive to criticism.
