Salary: £35000 - £42000 (Depending on Experience)

Location : Shrewsbury

Benefits: 25 days annual leave,

10% bonus

Contributory pension scheme- Caterpillar will double the employee's contribution Up to 10%

Department and Job Overview

An opportunity has arisen within Caterpillar Shrewsbury Limited for a Section Manager. This is a challenging role and represents an exciting opportunity working as an integral part of a highly focused team. The role involves leading teams of up to 50 direct reports including Team Leaders and Production Operators. The role is responsible for managing a production schedule and overall performance of a designated value stream, and is responsible for meeting Caterpillar's goals for People, Quality, Velocity and Cost, and an intense focus on safety.

Caterpillar Shrewsbury has a manufacturing footprint which produces a wide ranging scope of Diesel Engines and Transmissions with varying levels of complexity. This position reports to the Large Engines Value Stream Group Manager.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Manages processes, production teams and resources to meet PQVC targets, schedules and production requirements working closely as an interface with internal Customers and Suppliers to the Business.
  • Works with all business functions and departments to designate workload, priorities and sequence for work are assigned, prioritises for constrained resources, and adjusts staffing to meet flow and customer requirements.
  • Initiates and conducts process improvement dialogues with Team Leads and Team Members.
  • Monitor and improve safety on the shop floor; eliminate any unsafe operations and ensure a safe manufacturing environment and culture is maintained.
  • Ensures the quality of product produced and Departmental Processes conform to Caterpillars Quality Management System and ISO9001:2015 certification.
  • Lead specific "Stop to Fix" problem solving team activity.
  • Manage various 6 Sigma, CAT Production System Lean Manufacturing initiatives, working to improve processes, timeliness and reduce costs by eliminating non-value added activities safely.
  • Responsible for training and development of staff, time keeping, with a focus on safe home every day.
  • Undertaking safety & waste walks, standard work audits assuring both safety & product quality.
  • Work closely with Engineering teams to ensure that Process, Product and Engineering requirements are satisfied.

Candidates will have gained the following skills and experience through previous roles:
  • A formal Engineering Qualification (Degree desirable) with underpinning knowledge in a mechanical engineering discipline.
  • Minimum Lean Manufacturing Green Belt (6 Sigma, CAT CPS etc).
  • A Supervisory or Management Qualification.
  • IOSH Managing Safety certificate.
  • Proven manufacturing production experience.
  • Ability to plan, organise and prioritise a varied range of work.
  • Motivation to drive required tasks based on own initiative.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment and independently.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of employees.
  • General knowledge of Mechanical Engineering, Machining & Assembly.
  • Knowledge of Engine and fuel system manufacturing and assembly processes.
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office, MS Teams.
  • Competent working knowledge in Microsoft Excel.
  • A demonstrated passion for Quality.
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with a passion for leading and developing teams.
