Downer Mining have a rare opportunity for an experienced Underground Mine Superintendent interested in joining the team on a permanent basis at Carrapateena, a large-scale, world class modern underground mine owned by OZ minerals located in South Australia 160km north of Port Augusta.

This role will be offered FIFO on a 9:5 roster from South Australia or other East Coast states.

Your New Role

Reporting to the Project Manager, you will be responsible for coordinating the Mine Development activities through defining the Development processes and standards and, ensuring compliance within these to deliver the quarterly plan to budget in a proactive safe manner.

You will bring strong leadership skills with the ability to ensure the Mine Development team are adequately resourced and capable of achieving the scheduled targets and KPI's in a safe, efficient and productive manner. You will have the ability to implement and audit Mine Development continuous improvement requirements to improve safety, increase productivity and reduce cost.

Your responsibilities will include (but not limited to) the following:
  • Develop an understanding of all the technical components of the project
  • Provide support as required with development / production and technical services aspects of project to the Mine
    Foreman and Shift Supervisors
  • Provide operational knowledge and experience to Mine Foreman and Shift Supervisors to assist with meeting
    production targets as measured by the site KPI's
  • Effective management of OHS&E
  • Lead continuous improvement activities and provide technical knowledge to improve mining and mobile plant
    productively
  • Communicate shift performance and other relevant company information to Mine Foreman.
  • Track overall crew/team performance and oversee Foreman to ensure daily issues concerning personnel, plant,
    and processes are dealt with
  • Ensure compliance with the Quality Assurance (QA) requirements of the site project management plan (PMP).
  • Oversee work of subcontractors/labour hire to ensure they implement the requirements of a quality system in
    alliance with Downer Safety Management Plan as required
  • Ensure familiarity and compliance with Human Resources (HR) standards and the industrial instrument
    regulating employment conditions at the site
  • Ensure mining work is being performed in accordance with the contract
  • Work collaboratively with relevant client personnel to optimise productivity, compliance to work schedules, and
    quality of work

About You:
  • Development / Production background with operator experience
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of relevant Mining Acts and Legislation
  • Relevant operating permits and authorisations endorsed by the registered Site Manager
  • Current Manual driver licence
  • Demonstrated knowledge of underground metalliferous mining processes and operations
  • Ability to operate as part of a team
  • Leadership skills to empower direct reports and build strong team culture
  • Sound interpersonal and communication skills
  • Current first aid certificate
  • A positive attitude towards safety and a strong work ethic
  • Physical capability, including the ability to work night shifts, in hot and/or confined spaces and underground
