Are you passionate about safety and ensuring the safety of others? If so, we would love to have you join our Health and Safety team at our Fording River Operation.

Reporting to the Supervisor, Safety and Loss Control, the Health and Safety Coordinator is responsible for administration and coordination of site safety programs. The Coordinator ensures the mine site and its personnel are always in a state of readiness and is committed to the Company vision of “Everyone going home safe and healthy everyday”. This opening is for a temporary 12-month contract.

To be successful in this role we are looking for someone self-motivated and driven to produce results. Someone who will find opportunities for growth and improvement and will gain trust and compliance in those initiatives. To achieve this you must have well-honed communication and interpersonal skills, be able to gauge your audience, and convey a message affectively.

You will have the opportunity to help develop a team that is responsible for advancing the high potential risk control strategy. With direction from our coal safety team you will develop and grow a program that is critical to the success of the operation. You will also have the chance to collaborate with all levels of the operation, with varying expertise, and work with them to achieve crucial strategic objectives.

Responsibilities :
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Facilitate risk assessments, effectiveness reviews, and gap assessments
  • Conduct in field audits and Critical Control Verification Assessments
  • Apply continuous improvement processes and systems and provide expertise to ensure the workplace meets all applicable occupational health and safety standards
  • Coordinate health and safety systems and programs, including accurate weekly, monthly, and year end reporting
  • Assist Contract Managers and Supervisors in preparing detailed Environmental Health and Safety Community work plans (EHSC) and Environmental Protection Work Plans (EPWP) prior to contractor work
  • Provide departmental support for incident investigations, actions management, and safety meetings


Qualifications :
  • Completed, or working towards, a certificate, Diploma, or Degree in Health and Safety
  • Minimum two years’ experience in a health and safety role
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite® and safety management systems software
  • Class 5 driver’s license
