Position summary
Downer Rolling Stock services has an opportunity for a Lead Maintenance Engineer to join our Auburn Maintenance Centre to support our Waratah & Millennium Fleets. The purpose of the role is to lead a team of engineers and technical writers to maintain safe, compliant and reliable passenger fleets (Waratah and Millennium), while maximising performance and profitability.

The Lead Maintenance Engineer will develop industry leading maintenance and overhaul plans and processes, providing expert technical support and advice to internal and external stakeholders. This includes producing safe, compliant, reliable and cost-effective solutions, supporting production, maintenance and test & commissioning with timely advice, provide expert knowledge and understanding of aspects of equipment maintenance, provide technical advice to internal and external stakeholders, utilise maintenance management system to track and manage requirements/requests and identify technical risks and prepare risk assessments. We are looking for an Engineer with strong leadership skills that can effectively lead a technical team of 5 people, as well as be a subject matter expert in your field.

Ideally you will have the following:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (essential) Must be a member of Engineers Australia or Eligible for membership with Engineers Australia
  • Experience leading teams in rolling stock design and / or maintenance
  • Experience (5yrs +) in rolling stock design, build, test and commissioning and / or maintenance
  • Experience in the maintenance of complex electrical and mechanical systems and implementation of asset management programs in a rolling stock or heavy maintenance industry
  • Knowledge and utilisation of Reliability Centred Maintenance principles
  • Experience developing technical maintenance plans and instructions
  • Experience in Asset Management
  • Knowledge of relevant Australian and international rolling stock standards
  • Meet the requirements of a Rail Safety Worker
  • Knowledge of engineering change processes
  • Excellent communication, presentation and computer-based skills
  • Excellent leadership skills
