Teck is currently accepting applications for the position of Pit Utility/Haul Truck Operators. Teck recruits proactively to build a talent pool for current and/or future opportunities.

Reporting to the Pit Supervisor, Pit Utility/Haul Truck Operators are responsible for safely operating various models of haul trucks transporting coal and/or rock at an open pit coal mine .

Responsibilities :
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Operate haul trucks ranging in size from 180 ton to 400 ton capacity on a 12 hour shift including night shifts
  • Work and operate outdoors in all weather condition including rain, fog, and winter conditions
  • Perform tasks that involve heavy lifting
  • Perform repetitive tasks daily including transporting coal or waste rock over short and/or long distances
  • Inspect equipment such as tires, fluids, lights, brakes, to ensure equipment is fully functional and safe for operating
  • Communicate with dispatch, other operators, and supervisors using communication devices such as two-way radio and on-board computers


Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma, General Education Development (GED), or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license without learner’s restrictions (for example British Columbia class 7)
  • Previous heavy equipment operation or industrial experience is considered an asset
  • Successful candidates will be provided with extensive internal training
  • Computer literacy is considered an asset
