Redpath Mongolia LLC has an immediate opening for a Construction Supervisor  to join their dynamic team at the Oyu Tolgoi Project in Mongolia.  The site is situated in Southern Mongolia in the heart of the Gobi Desert flatlands.

Closing: October 8, 2020

Location: Oyu Tolgoi

Rotation: 4 weeks on, 2 weeks off

*Due to the current Covid-19 travel restrictions, we are on a modified rotation.  The rotation is 140 days:  3 weeks quarantine on entry.  11 weeks of work (14 days on, 3 days off).  2 weeks of quarantine at home and 4 weeks time-off.

Shift Length: 12 hours

Job Description

The primary role of the Construction Supervisor is to plan, organize and control the underground construction activities as directed on a shift by shift basis, to ensure the allocated projects are completed in accordance to company standards, site standards and safety practices. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to delivering the allocated projects on time and in a safe manner and to provide oversight and assistance with national workforce through construction mentoring and training programs.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with clarifying or defining parameters and deciding on construction processes to be utilized through daily handover meetings.
  • Ensure that the works undertaken is as per allocated work orders (planned or unplanned works).
  • Mentor national supervisors and national workforce on construction methodology and shift planning. Allow for maximum supervision time in the field (approximately 75% of shift in field).
  • Work with the national supervisors to ensure that all work is conducted in a safe manner and to the pre-established work methodologies. This includes all isolations and communication of works to all other departments in the underground operations.
  • Complete daily shift reports to provide progress on the UG construction projects, highlighting construction delays, scope change and training.
  • Co-ordinate daily work activities based on the weekly work schedule and advise supervisors of delays and critical interactions.
  • Develop and lead crew to achieve planned objective/s.
  • Work with the national supervisors to ensure construction compliance to standards, procedures and design intent required in the work orders.
  • Ensure solid understanding of construction requirements (including documentation and information), expectations, and timing of construction and required materials. Ensure that the shift crews have current and accurate work orders, drawings and specifications for the allocated work.
  • Work with the national supervisors to ensure that all training requirements are completed, all required training has been booked and personnel attend.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as an Underground Construction Supervisor.
  • Must understand underground work environment.
  • Must understand responsibilities of leadership.
  • Ability to multi task and work effectively with people from all nationalities.
  • Willing to mentor and train others.
  • Willing to be trained in other aspects of the supervision role.
  • Ability to read and understand drawings and work documentation.
  • Basic understanding of Mine Regulations pertaining to task.
  • Ability to conduct risk assessment of specific task.
  • Understanding of work related procedures and standards.
  • Ability to recognize and resolve problems as required.
  • Understanding of safety standards and procedures.
