Hatch is seeking a Power Systems Engineer to join our growing team in our Manchester, New Hampshire office. The Power Systems Engineer will be part of an engineering team providing engineering services to large and small projects and will be responsible for preparing engineering calculations, technical specifications, data sheets and reports.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the engineering design of megawatt-scale energy storage systems, including electrical system design, utility interconnection design, installation and testing plan design, and control system integration.
  • Manage engineering service sub-contractors and component vendors to contribute to the overall design of energy storage systems.
  • Create and coordinate the delivery and quality assurance of key engineering drawings and reports.
  • Provide engineering support for components solicitations including the evaluation of power conversion systems and battery systems from multiple vendors
  • Assist customers in developing documents to help them implement energy storage designs (i.e. installation plans)
  • Prepare general layout drawings, design criteria, design calculations, preliminary studies, value engineering studies, process flow sheets, standard specifications, standard detail drawings, construction and/or fabrication drawings, equipment lists, technical specifications, as-built documentation and data sheets.
  • Assist in measuring the progress of the engineering work packages to ensure that project budgets and schedules are being met.
  • Review the outcome of quality audits of engineering work and perform remedial work in accordance with the project procedures and the quality assurance plan.


Qualifications and Experience:

  • BSc/B.Eng degree in electrical engineering or related electrical power systems field
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer or actively working towards professional registration.
  • Minimum of 5 years of direct engineering experience within an electrical utility or power systems field
  • Experience working on utility-focused power systems engineering projects or design
  • Experience working on utility-scale energy storage system design
  • Sound understanding of the dynamics of introducing distributed energy resources into electric grid operations
  • Strong power systems engineering skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to function with minimal supervision.
  • Sound understanding of design engineering codes and technical standards.
  • Awareness of Hatch HSEC policy and standards.
  • Good safety awareness
