POSITION TITLE: Shift Superintendent (Night)
LOCATION:  Construction site
DEPARTMENT:    Construction    Group

REPORTS TO: Senior Manager (Night)

DIMENSIONS OF THE POSITION:
This is an expatriate technical position on the project.
This is a Night Shift position.

PURPOSE:
Provide oversight and guidance to the construction EPCM contractor to ensure the work is completed safely, on schedule and in accordance with the drawings and specifications. Review schedules and procedures to ensure interdisciplinary coordination and timely completion of the work. Ensure compliance with project policies regarding health, safety and environmental performance. Monitor progress and provide reports and input to maintain the scheduled completion of activities. Coordinate and communicate with other disciplines and functions to manage the work and provide assistance in resolving issues.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Implement and enforce the HSE Management Policies and Plan at site.
  • Schedule the area of the project in logical steps and budget time required to meet deadlines.
  • Work with the Contractor to determine labor requirements and dispatch workers to construction sites.
  • Inspect and review projects to monitor compliance with project norms.
  • Interpret and explain drawings, specifications and method statements to local staff and contractors.
  • Ensure that all necessary permits for construction are in place.
  • Study job specifications to determine appropriate construction methods.
  • Staff the area with the resources planned per the master staffing plan and deploy them accordingly to manage the execution contractor.
  • Implement oversight of quality control programs executed by the Contractor.
  • Take actions to deal with the results of delays, bad weather, or emergencies at construction site.
  • Confer with supervisory personnel, owners, contractors to discuss and resolve matters such as work procedures, complaints, and construction problems.
  • Plan, organize, and direct activities concerned with the construction and maintenance of structures, facilities, and systems.
  • Assist on investigations of accidents, near misses, damages or delays at construction sites, to ensure that proper procedures are being carried out.
  • Evaluate construction methods and effectiveness of plans.
  • Provide mentoring to national staff.
  • Act on any none conforming works or practices.
  • Attend and conduct tool box talks.
  • Accurately record all works completing daily, weekly and monthly construction reports
  • Alert the construction manager to any delays or potential delays
  • Analyze the contractor’s workforce in terms of skills, suitability to operation and numbers deployed
  • Be aware of all site traffic, and ensure that procedures and traffic management are in place for movement in and around the overall site.
  • Daily supervise the Construction supervisory team in direct report
  • All other duties and task as required by the Construction Manager

WORKING CONDITIONS/REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Maintain both personal action and speech in a professional manner.
  • Follow all Company policies and lead by example.
  • Be available for travel to sites when required.
  • Much of required work is independent of supervision; must utilize good time management.
  • 6 weeks on  Construction site/2 weeks off to point of origin or 10 working days at Project Site/4 days off based in Almaty
  • Work location – Project site in East- Kazakhstan region

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Languages: English language essential.
  • Accommodation is provided at the project site. Single accommodation with private washroom, internet connection, television, and laundry services are provided. Shared recreation facilities for  staff are also available on site.
  • Transportation to/from the project site is provided. Shared transportation is provided on site.
  • PPE, including outerwear and boots, is provided.
  • Temperatures range from approximately +40 C to -40 C. Wind chill factors are extreme in the winter months.

REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:

  • Technical university Engineering Degree (Bachelor, Masters: Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (desirable)).
  • Minimum of 3 years progressive experience in construction being responsible for Electrical & Instrumentation and Control (E&IC disciplines) with clear knowledge of all disciplines related to construction of Copper Concentrator Plants.
  • Experience in construction and commissioning of large Copper Concentrator projects and mining process facilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of construction planning, construction methods, international design/construction standards, productivity analysis, quality assurance and HSE procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage subordinates and work with all disciplines and able to perform other functions beyond his role, as indicated by the Construction Manager.
  • Work experience in cold weather region between -20 up to - 40 C.
  • International and/or multicultural experience would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of industry regulations and international design/construction standards.
