Lehigh Hanson is seeking an experienced Mine Planning Engineer for the Competence Center of Materials (CCM) team.  This position will be based at our corporate office in Irving, TX.
 
The position of the Mine Planning Engineer is responsible for evaluating mine sites throughout North America to determine the most economic and efficient way to mine aggregates. This position is ideal for someone who is self-motivated and enjoys problem solving in a group environment. This position serves as the beginning of a fulfilling career in the aggregates/mining industry and includes exposure to multi levels of management and a variety of complex geologic structures, operational obstacles, and varying extraction methods.

What you'll get to do
  • Responsible for supporting all aggregate operations in North America (NAM) with tasks including but not limited to: resources and reserve calculations, quarry development plans, pit shell and haulage plans, and reclamation plans.
  • Partner with Local Management and geologists throughout North America to evaluate quantity and quality of minerals to be mined.
  • Partner with engineers and local management to provide detailed mine plans and quarry development plans and establish action plans for key moments in the Life of Mine that will have major impacts on the site.
  • Develop and provide data required to produce short, mid, and long-range mine plans. Partner with project coordinators and engineers to provide necessary design parameters and volumes for capital projects.
  • Evaluate the efficiencies of systems and develop mining plans which will assist operations when unforeseen conditions develop.
  • Provide assistance to the land management team during the acquisition process.
Essential Experience and Skills
  • Bachelor of Science in Mining or Civil Engineering from an accredited institution preferred.
  • 1 to 5 years within the Aggregate or Construction/Building Materials industry 
  • Experience in preparing mine plans and supporting documents.
  • Must be proficient in the use of Carlson/Auto-Cad (preferably) and/or other computer design programs and mining or earthwork software.
  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Willingness to travel between 25% and 50%.
  • Must be able to comprehend and willing to follow all safety instructions and training as per site specific conditions dictate.

  • Role operates in a manufacturing environment with moving mechanical equipment, inclement weather, heat, humidity, elevated noise levels, and dusty conditions.
