ENGINEERS & GEOLOGISTS IN TRAINING for our Sudbury, Ontario Operations

Our Engineers & Geologists In Training at Vale’s Ontario Operations are enrolled in a program that includes Application of Theory, Practical Experience, Management of Engineering Communication Skills, and Social Implications of Engineering which is the requirement for licensing as a Professional Engineer in Ontario. Our EITs & GITs must be able to build and maintain relationships and interact with other technical staff and supervision. The position will involve assignments in a variety of technical groups across Vale and trips underground. The position may also involve assignments in similar departments in other Vale North Atlantic Operations.

Although previous experience in mining or an industrial setting is considered an asset, we also appreciate that diversity of thought comes from our differences – and that’s what makes us great!

Education & Experience:
  • Education:
    • ​Minimum requirement is an Undergraduate Degree in Engineering. Must be eligible to register as an Engineer in Training with the professional engineering association in Ontario
    • Minimum requirement is an Undergraduate Degree in Geology. Must be eligible to register as an Geologist in Training with the professional association in Ontario
  • Experience: A minimum of 0-2 years of related experience is preferred. Experience with:
    • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office products
    • Experience with engineering design software such as AutoCAD or Microstation (training will be provided)
    • Commitment to safety
    • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
    • Ability to work independently and in a team
    • Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills
    • Adaptability and flexibility
    • Strong problem-solving and data analysis skills
    • Must have strong organization and time management skills
    • Takes initiative and can self-direct to accomplish goals with minimum supervision.

Requirements & Accountabilities:
  • Follow Vale’s Safety Policy and Legislative Standards
  • Develop skills and abilities related to the provision of engineering to Ontario Operations
  • Ensure compliance to the applicable regulations, standards and guidelines
  • Utilize good engineering practices while minimizing costs
  • Provide technical support to enable safe and cost-effective operations
  • Monitor process parameters and communicate changes outside normal operational conditions to supervisor
  • Maintain a high level of professional conduct
  • Complete assigned projects safety and on time. Project work includes sampling, sample preparation, data analysis and reporting
