Purpose

  • To manage the sustaining capital projects functions in the development pipeline, including managing all capital planning to guarantee the development and execution of the Commercial strategy; project contracting; project procurement; local procurement; project resources set up (people, systems, management); day-to-day systemic management; materials management; asset management; logistics; business readiness and project close out.
  • To develop Commercial strategies and resources to support Capital Projects that provide the best value to the business; functional commercial leadership; strategic interface with SC Operations and direct the quality and execution of project commercial work products
  • To provide functional leadership to the Commercial Projects team, including managing, coaching and mentoring the team to guarantee the implementation of the Commercial strategies, policies, procedures for Sustaining Capital Projects as well as for promoting and delivering value adding services, advice and coaching to the respective business functions.


Essential Duties

Health and Safety
  • Provide a leadership role on all Safety issues, ensuring that the Projects Commercial team and directly managed suppliers or contractors actively move through the Safety Journey.
  • Maintain and guarantee a healthy environment, safe operations practices, compliance with all applicable Health and Safety (H&S) policies, procedures in line with set standards.


Operational Excellence
  • Develop and lead, best value to the business, commercial strategies for the safe and successful execution of project portfolio.
  • Negotiate strategies for major procurements and also review and approve major procurements.
  • Review and approve business readiness strategies and finalize business readiness activities for mine projects.
  • Manage the implementation of the Regional Commercial and Supply Chain standards.
  • Develop, expand, preserve or improve the functional procedures, standards or policies while remaining aligned to business ethics and regulatory guidelines.
  • Develop and manage the Commercial management systems and the interface with the ERP, as well as Supply Chain information availability..
  • Confirm that programmes exist to capture all portfolio management, savings and supply chain service levels.
  • Supervise Contract management for all goods and services for all sustaining capital projects performed by the Commercial Projects team.
  • Supervise Procurement and Materials Management for Sustaining Capital Projects for all goods and services procured by Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management (EPCM) teams, in the course of construction, pre commissioning, commissioning, closure and claims if it applies.


Growth
  • Secure supply of critical commodities and value creation for Newmont Goldcorp through a consistent sourcing approach.
  • Check that the Commercial Projects needs of Operations are delivered in a cost effective and timely manner, in compliance with global / regional goals and in accordance with Newmont Goldcorp values.


Training & Experience

Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations):
  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree with preference for an undergraduate degree in engineering, construction management or business management plus formal registration with an appropriate professional body / association plus a MBA PMI or equivalent qualification.


Additional Knowledge:
  • Substantial knowledge of gold mining or broader hard rock mining with a deep understanding of SC and projects.
  • Substantial knowledge of the overall business and how the commercial function supports the business.
  • Substantial knowledge of the ambit of supply chain management portfolio (supply chain strategy; forecasting and planning; procurement, purchase to pay cycle and asset management)Substantial knowledge of the market dynamics related to the gold mining industry.Broad business knowledge and focus, ability to recognize issues, problems and capitalize on opportunities.
  • Sound knowledge of global economic, social, competitive and political trends.Substantial knowledge of SAP, or equivalent enterprise level software packages is necessary. Substantial knowledge in capital program planning, stage gate initiatives and strategic planning for large complicated programmes.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook) skills.


Experience:
  • At least 15+years' experience in executing major capital projects, with 8 years of senior project management experience including construction contracting, equipment procurement, material / inventory control and logistics for major development projects.
  • High level understanding of Engineering and Construction (E&C) industry practices in conducting formal tenders, including the development of tender packages, contract preparation and purchase orders preparation, contract negotiations and award.
  • Extensive experience in the mining and minerals industry strongly preferred, including experience in mining capital equipment.
  • Extensive experience in general supply chain management.
  • Broad based experience in contracts (engineering, technical services, life support services, construction, mine services, general services, transportation and logistics etc.) to manage all aspects of the Core Services business segments.
  • Demonstrated successes in attracting and retaining a high-performing and diversified leadership team, creating a teamwork environment built on coaching, development and accountability for achieving results
  • Demonstrated successes in working collaboratively in multi-cultural teams in expatriate settings. Work in developing countries, specifically in South America preferred


Working Conditions

  • The position is located at Cerro Negro Site.
  • The position is exposed to an environment where the need for detailed or precise work is extreme.
  • The position is exposed to extreme mental pressure and stress.
  • Extended and unpredictable hours is the norm.
  • The position may be required to have national and international travel.
  • The work schedule would be 9 working days for 5 days off (can be adjusted by company needs).
  • Good state of health to work in high elevation / low temperature areas.
