REPORTING STRUCTURE

Reports to: Mine Shift Team Leader

THE ROLE

The purpose of this job is to operate the Grader, thus optimizing safe extraction of ore and waste at the Nyrstar Tennessee Mine operation. A grader, also commonly referred to as a blade or a motor grader is an engineering vehicle with a large blade used to create a flat surface. The Grader Operator uses the Grader for road maintenance to optimize ore haulage throughout the mine.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES/TASKS:
  • Conducts pre-shift check of equipment
  • Performs routine preventive maintenance on the machine
  • Conducts workplace inspections throughout the shift
  • Plans and conducts road maintenance(and water drainage)
  • Assess surface conditions and grade site to achieve suitable hauling surface
  • Conducts housekeeping activities

Safety, Health, Environment and Community
  • Promote and demonstrate safe behavior at all times
  • Comply with the site's standards and procedures in SHEC(Know MSHA requirements)
  • Demonstrate effective performance in achieving agreed SHEC goals in support of the department, site and company standards
  • Demonstrates leadership in SHEC through personal behaviors and conversations, and report all SHEC incidents and participate in SHEC initiatives, reviews and investigations
  • Take responsibility for the safety of all personnel, including yourself, at Nyrstar Tennessee Mines
  • Wears proper PPE at all times
Operations
  • Understand how to run a grader
  • Able to perform pre-shift check and lubrication on grader,
  • Understands basic principles of drainage
  • Able to safely maintain roadways and ditch lines
  • Demonstrate the ability to float the grader to create/maintain a level surface.

People and Organization
  • Attend work in an punctual manner, fit for work, and that correct procedures are followed in cases where absences from work may occur
  • Maintain a sound relationship with Mine Shift Team Leader, coworkers, and other departments while working together


QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

  • Preferred 3-5 years experience in mining
  • Experience in construction and/or using heavy equipment
  • Preferred knowledge of mining regulation and statutory responsibilities

  • Good time management and prioritization skills
  • Performs practical and manual activities
  • Has an aptitude for mechanics and is able to handle machinery

  • Has good organizational skills
  • Is able to record details accurately
  • Has a knowledge of underground mining principles
