Summary of Position

The Vice President of Environmental Affairs will lead the development of the corporate Environmental strategy and implement tactical policies and programs to maintain total reportable non-compliance rates as near to zero as possible. This individual will work directly with the CEO, COO and others to maintain and continuously improve environmental policies, compliance and awareness. This role is comprehensively involved in the execution of obtaining, maintaining and sustaining both federal and state permits. The position will align corporate and local environmental goals and strategies, as well as lead, develop, coach and manage environmental staff members and mine site leadership.

Essential Functions

- Responsible for strategic plan design and implementation of environmental audits and inspection plans to foster continuous improvement regarding environmental policies and programs
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive compliance register to ensure timely monitoring and reporting to governmental agencies.
- Corporate responsibility for obtaining, maintaining and ensuring compliance with permits including, but not limited to federal land rights, reclamation permits, water pollution control permits, potable or storm water permits; Waste (hazardous and non-hazardous); Air (internal respiratory and external emissions); or other permits associated with the organization.
- Advise senior management and/or board of directors (as required) on all government regulations that pertain to environmental permitting, compliance, audits or other associated factors.
- Ability to demonstrate project management, due diligence and lead environmental regulatory aspects for the business.
- Build rapport, maintain positive relationships and ability to effectively communicate with federal, state and local regulators.
- Ability to engage and integrate consultants into the environmental strategic plan.
- Responsible for developing, managing and maintaining the environmental budgets.
- Responsible to ensure the organization is in compliance with all relevant federal, state and local environmental regulations.
- Responsible for the development of corporate training programs regarding environmental behaviors and compliance.
- Train department heads on the expectation specific to their department with respect to environmental obligations.
- Ability to work at a strategic and tactical level.

Experience & Qualifications

- Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Engineering, Biology, Geology, Hydrogeology, or related field required.
- Registered Environmental Manager, Registered Geologist, or other professional certification desired.
- Fifteen (15) years of experience in environmental field with at least eight (8) to ten (10) years in mining industry related to NEPA experience and at least five (5) years state of Nevada permitting experience required.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in advancing projects in federal lands and permitting natural resources, including Environmental Impact Statement, under NEPA, state agencies particularly in Nevada and other governmental agencies.
- Must be able to positively influence through collaboration, resolution, execution, rapport and respect with government agencies or other associated entities.
- Must have demonstrated ability to write, review and edit permitting documents of various types.
- Must have good comprehension of safe operating procedures, safety rules, policies, emergency procedures, and MSHA requirements.
- Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Demonstrated excellent ability to communicate information in various forms to a variety of audiences.
- Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternate solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

- Proven ability to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintain them over time.

Travel:

This position will be based in Denver, Colorado with regular travel to Nevada (approximately every four to six weeks) is anticipated along with other travel as needed.
