The Role

We are seeking for a Superintendent Shutdown Grinding Mechanical mining professional to work at the Lihir Gold Limited operation in Papua New Guinea. Working closely with the Grinding Maintenance Superintendent and the Operations Superintendent, this role requires a high level of proficiency and experience across Shutdown Maintenance Management directly related to Grinding - Asset Management shutdowns. The successful candidate will have solid understanding and experience across all maintenance requirements relating to Grinding Shutdown tasks and has the ability to successfully coordinate and execute large-scale shutdown activities. Your direct reports will total around 40 personnel across Planning, Scheduling, Mechanical, Kitting and Staging, Technical Specialists and Senior Specialists. You will oversee shutdown maintenance activities for the Grinding areas that include Grinding Mills, Screening Equipment, Process Slurry Circuits, Conveyors, Pumps, Thickeners, Flotation Circuits and all infrastructure that supports this equipment. You will ensure these areas are correctly maintained to meet the necessary production and reliability targets.



The Requirements
  • Trade qualified Mechanical Engineering degree or advanced diploma in Mechanical Engineering desirable
  • Relevant trades qualification or certification essential
  • Supervisor/Leadership training (essential)
  • Certificate in Workplace Assessment and Training or similar, highly desirable
  • Minimum 7 years' experience working in similar positions at a Maintenance Superintendent level
  • Technically confident and experience in Grinding shutdown requirements, incorporating planning/scheduling, materials coordination, and work execution.
  • Exposure to remote mine sites, ideally within developing countries where multi-national workforces are utilised desirable but not essential.
  • Ability to provide governance and monitor progress to ensure compliance and best-practice work management processes are followed across all area shutdown activities.
  • Intimate knowledge of all relevant grinding equipment, tooling and materials including piping, seals, pumps, valves, and flange management.
  • Commitment to developing Area Supervisors and other shutdown team members by providing feedback, coaching, and formal training, where required.
  • Sound report writing skills with the ability to maintain a well-written shutdown report
  • Working knowledge of SAP and/or other CMMS systems with the ability to review and improve processes (highly desirable).
  • HSE Champion, ensuring all company requirements, responsibilities and obligations are fulfilled
  • Proven ability to foster strong, professional relationships to identify problems, resolve conflicts and implement solutions.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills, ensuring the capability to meet deadlines and KPIs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of self-motivation, with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously
  • Proficiency in the use of MS Office Suite.



Mobilisation Requirements:
  • Must be open to relocate residentially to Lihir. A FIFO option may be considered.
  • Ability to provide/obtain valid police clearance
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment
