First Quantum (Ravensthorpe Nickel Operation - RNO) is currently searching for an experienced DCS Technician to join our team.
Role Purpose
Reporting to the Control Systems Supervisor the successful candidate will be part of a small highly skilled team responsible for the maintenance, development and implementation of all on-going design changes for the process plant control system and associated PLC systems.

The position is rostered day shift only however after hours operations support is sometimes required.

Roster: Family Friendly 8 days on/6 days off

Team Members are offered the choice of accommodation in the site village on a BIBO Esperance/Albany or DIDO Perth or other areas or Residential in company assisted housing in beautiful Hopetoun.

The process plant areas consists of:

  • A Beneficiation circuit , consisting of crushers and grinding mills with associated support systems and process circuits including conveying systems, vibrating screens, centrifugal and P.D pumps, pipework and cyclones, various sized tankage with agitation.


  • A Leach circuit consisting of High Pressure Acid Leach Trains which include autoclaves and associated support systems, HP vessels, HP centrifugal and P.D. pumps and pipework also an Atmospheric Leach circuit with associated centrifugal pumps, pipework and various sized tankage with agitation.


  • A Hydro circuit with associated centrifugal pumps, pipework and various sized tankage with agitation, pressure and vacuum filters including associated support systems.


  • A Utilities plant which includes a Sulphuric Acid plant, steam turbines and diesel generators for power generation, desalination plant, and air compressors.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
  • PLC software development and testing - experience with DeltaV and Rockwell (RS Logix 5000 and/or Studio 5000 is preferable.
  • HMI application development and testing
  • Industrial Networks Knowledge - Profibus, Foundation Field Bus and Ethernet/IP
  • Hardware configuration
  • Knowledge of VFD operation/Setup and Communication
  • Degree in Computer Science or Control Engineering will be highly regarded but not essential
  • Experience with Pi Systems highly regarded but not essential.
  • Design and commissioning experience in industrial control systems and instrumentation will be highly regarded but not essential
  • Familiarity with best practices in Workplace Health and Safety and Environmental procedures, legislation policies, and management systems.


  • Key Accountabilities
  • Responsible for the day to day maintenance of the Plant DCS System
  • Perform, test and commission DCS design changes whilst maintaining a standard.
  • Assist Operations staff with defect RCA or fault analysis
  • Be accurate, methodical, practical and safety-conscious when installing and maintaining DCS equipment.
  • A clear understanding of preventative maintenance, strong communication skills and a flexible \"can do\" work ethic.
  • Have the ability to recognise persistent faults, diagnose common problems and provide practical solutions where necessary. The applicant must have good observational skills and be able to identify faults quickly to help minimise downtime.
  • Coordinate with departmental and team members, as well as process departmental members.
  • Must be prepared to work Standby shift after an initial grace period (1 week/ month).
  • Be able to work in the appropriate PPE for the required task

  • Ensure own personal safety and that of equipment / machinery around you.
  • Ensure the team's compliance with safe operating procedures.
  • Check the work place before the start of work.
  • Be pro-active and role model in all aspects of safety.
  • Always wearing proper PPE and maintain safety equipment in good order.
  • Ensure maintenance is carried out in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Be familiar with the lock / tag out procedures for equipment / machinery.
