About the role

We are looking for an Officer: Accounts Payable, to ensure the day-to-day operational activities of the service lines is performed for the region.

The key success to this position will be the applicant's ability to deliver consistent results, drive continuous improvement, and build credibility with business stakeholders. Be able to manage the AP process so invoices are ready for payment on time. Ensure that Rio Tinto internal and externally audited controls are monitored as well as liaising with internal and external parties.

The Officer - Accounts Payable and Expense Management is focused on ensuring these departments deliver excellent service, whilst maintaining an improvement mindset to look for ways to operate more efficiently.

The role will incorporate commercial acumen with technical skill in an environment that is striving to achieve high levels of compliance to process, automation & data accuracy.

Reporting to the Superintendent: Accounts Payable / Expense Management, you will:
  • Deliver globally consistent and regionally focused services within the assigned region for AP, CM & EM.
  • Assist in the identification and execution of continuous improvement initiatives
  • Manage potential risks and ensure plans are implemented to mitigate or remediate as necessary
  • Ensure the daily accounts payable, cash management, vendor reconciliation and expense management activities are performed
  • Ensure that Rio Tinto internal and external audit controls are maintained and monitored
  • Perform bank account administration and maintenance
  • Oversee bank transactions and manage payment runs
  • Coordinate payment of urgent invoices
  • Assist with the compliance of all regional internal and external audit requirements

About you

To succeed in this role, you will have:
  • Matric and relevant Accounting Degree / Diploma or equivalent
  • Basic understanding of accounting controls with experience in accounts payable, invoice processing, and expense management is required
  • Minimum of 3 years working in similar role
  • Experience working with SAP and Ariba Purchase to Pay(beneficial)
  • Experience in mining industry will be highly regarded
  • Basic knowledge of the end-to-end purchase-to-pay process
  • Strong relationship skills such as written and verbal communication, empathy, compromise, and respect for others
  • Strong problem solver, strategic thinking and analytical capability. Be able to pre-empt problems before they arise.
  • Lead by example in respect to health, safety, environment and business ethics
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products
  • French language capability (an advantage)
