Coordinates training to ensure that all employees receive the knowledge and practical training required to be a safe and productive contributor in their assigned role to the operation.

Ensures all training is in compliance with legislative requirements (OH&S Regulations, Explosives Act, etc.) and in conformance with company safety and health, and HR policies.

The Training Supervisor must adhere to the guidelines as outlined in the Inuit Impacts and Benefits Agreement (IIBA), and creates reports on training and development programs as required by the IIBA.

Establishes and maintains communications & builds relationships with all stakeholders of the operation (workers, supervisors, department heads, etc.) to ensure training needs are identified and addressed in a timely manner and risks associated with the business are reduced in order to build and maintain a safe, cost effective, and productive operation.

Supervises Trainers and coordinates their task to ensure training plans are met and that Trainers are adhering to proper protocols, plans, timelines and procedures.

Main Accountabilities

  • Develop, implement and maintain a site wide Training Calendar where all site training ais captured and communicated.
  • Coordinates, facilitates and ensures delivery of all Orientation training programs at Mary River and Milne Port as well as any alternate orientation locations.
  • Coordinates and schedules delivery of all required training programs and departmental requests for the operation of the Mary River Mine Site and Milne Port Site.
  • Develops, implements and manages training programs as required to meet the requirements of all operating departments at Baffinland Iron Mines.
  • Works closely with departmental Managers, Superintendents and Supervisors to identify training needs for all employees.
  • Works closely with the departmental Managers, Superintendents and Supervisors to develop a training plan for each departmental employee and monitors that plan for implementation and successful delivery
  • Prepares prior learning assessments and lesson plans for employees as required.
  • Develops, implements and manages competencies associated with all HQ and plant equipment
  • Contributes to the research and development of training materials and ensures that the content is both relative and supportive of the course (specifically) and the training program (generally).
  • Schedules safe and effective classroom, practical, and follow-up training by the trainer in the field in a timely manner.
  • Ensures that employees are mentored and coached in a safe, effective and productive operation on BIM Mining equipment and other Site Equipment.
  • Works closely with departmental Managers, Superintendents and Supervisors to identify coaches and ensures coaches meet all competency requirements and receives Train the Trainer training.
  • Ensures employee performance is monitored by the Trainers and findings are reported to the Departmental Managers and provides feedback and coaching to the employee.
  • Ensures Trainers provide follow up and refresher training to employees in their area of work/job (safety and job specific).
  • Ensures orientation training is delivered to all new employees, contractors, and visitors to site as scheduled and maintains the orientation to keep current
  • Ensures specialized certification training is delivered to the entire site as required. Examples include: air brake training, Confined Space, Fall Protection, Overhead Crane operation, First Aid, etc.
  • Ensures all training is in compliance with legislative requirements, and in conformance with company policies, and Inuit Impact and Benefit Agreements (IIBA) and the Inuit Certainty Agreement (ICA)
  • Ensures employees are mentored in the Field Level Risk Assessment Process (FLRA) hazard identification, Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) risk assessment and the departmental risk register.
  • Ensures a training plan is developed for each position within Operations.
  • Manage ADP to ensure Employee hours/timesheets are approved and entered in a timely manner.
  • Above all, be a Courageous Safety Leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental behaviours, rules and procedures, and compliance to site OH&S standards as well as participating in safety initiatives, hazard identification, tool box meetings and incident investigations when required.


Main Qualifications

  • High School Diploma Required
  • College Diploma Preferred
  • Familiarity with LMS, preferably CogniBox Preferred
  • 5 to 7 years plus of relevant training experience preferably in the Mining\Construction\Heavy Industry sector
  • Degree or certificate in Adult Education Instruction or equivalent work experience Required
  • First Aid Certification Preferred
  • WSCC Supervisor Certification Preferred
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point) as well as Outlook Required
